pignition posted:All of this Contra talk made me fire up Hard Corps: Uprising, the not-Contra Contra game Konami put out on PSN/XBL a while back. It's a great game, and hard as hell. I think it got sadly overlooked when it came out, but I just don't have the skill to show it off here. Anyone in this thread who may have missed it should definitely check it out. Was there any particular reason they thought it was a good idea to not put Contra in the title of their Contra game? And speaking of downloadable contra games, how is Rebirth?

The Ecco games are awesome. Never beat the first one though. The second one, I used to play over and over again, and lost track of how many times I beat it. I haven't touched either in ages so maybe I was just a weird Tides of Time savant. I've also never beaten Contra 3, but have made it through the original, hard corps and 4 without incident. I've beaten Neo too, but it's a crappy game and not worth writing home about.

I never knew about the special powers in Kid Chameleon. Maybe that's why I never beat it.

I loved Maximum Carnage, but was never able to beat it. There's a certain boss, midway through the game I think, I was never able to get past. I've never seen anyone do it either, so I look forward to seeing it done.

Phantasium posted:Dunno about that, but the original creators recently did a kickstarter to do something like Ecco and its as batshit as you'd expect (make sure you watch the video). As a big Ecco fan, I'd have kicked them some money, if I had known about it. Anyway, the third Ecco game was written by David Brin, who is probably most famous for writing The Postman, which was the book the Kevin Costner movie was based on. Also a series of books about psychic future dolphins or something called Uplift that I've never read.
