I'd like a good quality TV but don't have very high end requirements. Do I have any good options?

The constraints are: the space the TV will go in is a bit of an alcove, the distance on the left is limited so the screen can't be very big. I think a 43" would be the max really. On top of that while it will be used for watching movies the Internet connection will likely be quite slow so I will prob be bringing with me on a drive from home (and then playing through a computer with HDMI 1.4) so the content will be HD and I can't envisage 4k really ever happening.

So, are there decent 43" 1080p options? I've had Panasonic and Sony TVs I've liked in the last few years. how is this one?

NB I am in Switzerland so only mainstream brands are available

I assume you have Panasonic displays like much of the EU does, correct me if I'm wrong.

If so, how about the Panasonic GX800, which has an excellent 40 inch model?

e: It's not really feasible or suggested to buy a 1080p TV at this time no matter your streaming speed. Your streaming service will take your throughput into account, it's not like if you have a 4K TV you can only watch 4K content.

If you're dead set on a 1080p set, you can buy something nice and cheap on the used market, but you would have to do the research on that.

Thanks for this btw. I guess the non-stupid thing to do would be take the 40" full HD TV out to the mountains and get a new one for the city. I like the sound of OLED and we have an Apple TV 4k (and a 10Gb internet connection) so should be able to make use of it?

Don't want to go too crazy but these look OK? https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/sony-kd55ag8-55-4k-android-os-oled-television-10658720?tagIds=538

Well I would describe this TV as extremely awesome for watching movies. My internet package came with an Apple TV 4k which I've not used for movies up to now but streamed some 4k and HD content and the picture is incredible.

Very happy.

Yes they're bigger and need more cables but the sound, particularly voices, you get out of something with a 5" or bigger woofer is entirely superior to all soundbars. It's just physics :science:

Do you have any specific recs for these?

Question about connecting a B&O BeoSound Stage to an LG OLED55B6P

I want all the content that's on the TV, regardless of source, to play through the sound bar. Do I just connect the HDMI ARC from the TV to the HDMI ARC on the sound bar?

I notice that if I play something else on the sound bar (eg, stream music to it), even after stopping the music and turning on the TV, nothing plays through the sound bar, even though the TV has the right output and the like selected, and it normally picks it up just fine. Any fix for this?

I have a Sony rather than LG, but the Stage just switches to the TV automatically when switched on. If you connect through Chromecast the TV switches off.

It's connected to the ARC socket of the TV and isn't doing HDMI signal pass through. Doesn't look like there's anything specific to this in the B&O app. Maybe there's a TV setting.

I'm in the market for a new TV, it's replacing a 40" Panasonic that has done well but is too small nowadays. The space it's going in will take a 55" but I think a 65 will be too big. I've ended up with some vouchers for an electronics shop and have narrowed it down to either a LG C3 or a Sony A95K.

https://www.mediamarkt.ch/de/product/_lg-oled55c37la-2179569.html
https://www.mediamarkt.ch/de/product/_sony-xr-55a95k-2124400.html

It's pretty much just going to be used to watch movies on, will be plugged into a PC initially but I think ultimately a Mac Mini.

What's the better one of these options? Or other TV from that shop if you can be bothered to look. I don't want a Samsung as I've had various poo poo products from them in the past and am fed up with them.

Are you sure a 65" would be too large? It's hard to tell from the photos, but it looks to me like a distance and space that you wouldn't regret going larger if your budget allows.

A 65 would physically fit in the space, but because of where the alcove is it would be shifted too far over to the right from where you view it. Also it would upset my girlfriend who is a bit anti-massive-TVs

Hello goons.
I'm an old man and don't know what TV to buy. I've read the OP and various reviews online, but still not sure.
I have an ancient plasma panasonic viera, and my wife thinks it's a bit too small and the OS (lol) on it has less functions than a NES.
I always liked the image quality, though. To the point that over the years I've frequently strolled down the TV aisle at a local supermarket, looking at the various new TV's and was seldom impressed.
This can also be entirely the fault of the supermarket not playing good quality footage on them. But I see a lot of weird artifacts in the new screens, they all look like extreme zoomed in iphone pictures that kinda look like oil paintings. Very sharp, but it kinda clusters similar colors together to get there. Maybe I'm just looking from too close by.

Anyway, any recommendations are welcome. The distance from the tv - couch is only 3,5 m/11,5 feet.
So I guess 55 to 65? I won't play games on it.

Currently in discount (these names are all done with a random password generator, I'm guessing)
SAMSUNG 65" Neo QLED 4K Smart TV QE65QN85CATXXN
TCL 55C845 55" QLED Smart 4K (2023)
PHILIPS 65PML9008/12 65" FULL LED Smart 4K
SONY Bravia KD55X85LAEP X85L

I think the mini led (tcl) kinda looked better than the newer models in the store. But this is probably because of crappy footage/me being old.

Idk why people are being a bit unhelpful but agree a budget would be good.

Depending on the store they are probably sending bad video signals to the TVs or have them set up badly. Current ones have amazing picture quality, especially OLED screens.

How do you plan on getting media to the TV?

3.5m is a decent distance and if you have the space I'd go for a 65in+ screen.

For my own part the TV I ordered is showing as "signed, delivered" in the tracker, but when I look for the consignment directly it's giving an invalid number error. Obviously there is no way to speak to anyone. gently caress!

Spoke to the post office who confirm the TV was delivered and signed for, the shop replied to my enquiry saying delivery was complete, see the attached documents (nothing was attached). So I think someone did manage to intercept the delivery of the TV. Incredible.

Yeah will do. I bought it on an Amex which I got in case something goes wrong with a transaction. Swiss credit cards generally offer quite poo poo protection from fraud.

Right so this sounds like a dumb question but should I care about getting a 4k 120hz signal into this TV? The existing TV has a mini PC which has worked well serving up 1080 content to it, I was planning on maybe getting a mac mini to plug into this one, but now I see it has 120hz refresh rate. To make use of that I would need a mac mini pro... which is twice as expensive.

Is there any real rationale for doing that? 90% of the time this is going to be used for watching movies and sports.

On the other hand it feels wrong to have a high refresh rate screen and not be able to use it.
