I dreamt I was an old dog, stuck in a honeypot. It was horrifying.
I do sorta think Mazda's wasting their time and money trying to get the rotary to work in modern times without mating it to an electric motor in some fashion.

I'm hoping they go all BMW and make a series hybrid using a rotary... somehow.

No, it's a well established fact that not everyone appreciates truly finer things, such as a great wine or work of art, or even a clutch and shifter. It's not their fault, their tastes just never had a chance to develop.

I envy them in a way, never wanting to spend money on something just a little nicer. :smaug:

That would be the automatic drivers opinion toward manual drivers, as it's always been a higher cost option.

Got a question about the oil metering pump on the 13B. I just got my engine back from a rebuild and one of the lines to the oil injectors snapped and the rest are a little too brittle for comfort. What I ended up doing is getting some two stroke fuel hose from a motor cycle shop and safety wiring it up to the injectors. I don't think anything past the oil metering
pump operates at system pressure but would somebody be able to confirm?

But wasn't the FD way out of casual enthusiast price range? I see no reason this would be any different, they've already got the speed3 for enthusiasts.

Speed3 has been gone since the current generation 3 came out. Which is a shame, the 3 is an excellent car begging for more power.

But, yeah, the FD was not cheap. Adjusting for inflation it would be $56k today before you check any option boxes.

Pressure won't be your problem, heat will though. What temperature are those lines rated to?

I can't remember who makes them, but the usual course of action is upgrading to stainless braided ones.

Not too sure but its similar stuff to what I use for the crankcase pulse on my kart and if heat was an issue it probably would've surfaced there.

Give em a shot and keep an eye one em. They'll either be fine, melt or get hard and brittle.

Currently looking at various RX8s and wanted the rotary experts' opinions.

I am thinking the best bang for the buck will probably be, from best to worst:

1. PZ or 40th anniversary series 1 car with good hot compression results;
2. Any series 1 231 with decent compression under £2,000 (US$2,500?) (then chuck a Bilstein B12 kit on it); or
3. Late series 1 231s that have a documented rebuild within living memory (and even compression / chamber variance within a decent range).

Obviously the chassis has to not be rusting to hell. Does this sound about right?

I'd like something that will do 3 years / 30k before a rebuild. I am thinking the most economical option might be to flatbed a good rolling chassis with a blown motor for £500, pull the motor and get it rebuilt with a mild bridgeport, but :effort: and I don't really have the time with work and kids etc.

Some general questions in case anyone has any thoughts:

1. If I'm looking at 2003/2004 cars, do I absolutely need to count on upgrading the starter if it hasn't been done?
2. Is there any real benefit to the "upgraded" coils a lot of rotary specialists are promoting, or should you just go with OEM replacements?
3. Any performance benefit to running a sport cat, or running a decat midpipe and saving your cat midpipe for emissions testing?
4. Is there a better budget suspension option for ordinary series 1 cars than a B12 kit? Tein springs and OEM replacement dampers?

1) FD. Check.
2) 4 Rotors. Check.
3) A turbo the size of a buffet platter. Check.
4) AWD... wait, what?

It's cool, but also the video is just a guy raving about the cool name he thought of for it. Like, if you're building a 4-rotor turbod out awd FD, the 2 most important things your video should have is loud noises and nasty tire-smoking track footage.

I think it was supposed to be done right now, but is still waaaaaaaay off. The car was booked in for sema, so it's gonna be there, but it's just not done.

For people who didn't follow the project and don't want to listen to him talk about how awesome he is for spending money, He ordered the 4 rotor from NZ or aus, i forget, but UPS lost it, and refused to pay up on the shipping insurance until it was found, and he eventually found the engine on ebay, and later found out that UPS had auctioned it off as unclaimed merchandise.

Sorry that this got missed for so long.

1. As your compression drops, the starter probably won't be able to spin it fast enough. It is funny, an upgraded starter can mask hot start issues due to low compression sort of.
2. The spec "C" mazda oem coils are fine, that being said it's in some countries a negligible price increase to upgrade to the LS coil. I'm in Canada and it ended up being only $100 more for me to toss in LS coils vs the good factory "C' spec ones.
3. Maybe a few HP since rotaries love unrestricted exhausts more than piston engines. The big thing is that a failing ignition system can kill your cat and if that clogs, you can kiss your renesis goodbye if you don't catch it soon enough.
4. Bilstein B6's with RB or Mazdaspeed are a decent upgrade. I want to say someone on RX-8 club did their homework on which spring rate works best for which shock valving.
