http://appshopper.com/games/quento is a fun and simple math game. I don't know how long it will hold my interest, but it is free!

You are given a 3x3 grid with numbers at the corners and center, with addition and subtraction operands in the remaining spots. You are given two goals (with two more unlockable for $.99): one for matching two numbers with an operand to a specific total, one for matching three numbers and two operands to a different specific total. The hard part is that you can only swipe adjacent squares. Just because there is a 5 a minus and a 3 on the board doesn't mean you can make a two from those, but I continually get caught trying to figure out how to connect the five and three instead of seeing that I need to subtract the seven from the nine.

Or I could just have some kind of brain disease and the solutions lay apparent to normal people.

To the goon who made Take My Machete (can't remember who it was, and I don't have search)--I finished story mode of your game, but only because I wasn't going to feel right about my criticisms without finishing it.

There is possibly a good game in there, but fighting the controls really puts a damper on it. The directional buttons and machete button are too easy to miss: there should not be a spot of inaction between these buttons and/or the edge of the screen. The machete takes a half second too long to activate after being hit, so I think for half a second I didn't hit it and mash it again (also, this causes problems with the bomb aliens and the laser gun aliens). On the other hand, the inventory and special buttons are far too easy to accidentally hit. There were many times that I was trying to fire an arrow and activating those instead. Maybe get rid of the classic FPS facial health meter to make room for the buttons away from the player character. My final gripe in regards to the controls are that I have to cover my sprite to fire arrows, and often get hit with the space beam or the graboids because my finger is covering the sign that they're arriving.

The last point wouldn't be such an issue if the warning sound for either of those occurrences weren't completely drowned out by the music, whose volume level options are limited to an off/on toggle. Why is there no volume control slider?

As for the lucky spin, after having beaten the story mode, the only two prizes I got from the lucky spin were 10pts and free-spins. The chart says there are other prizes, but I doubt the veracity of that without them being displayed on the wheel or ever functionally coming up. It is possible that I simply had over twenty unlucky spins, but considering the other faults I think it's at best weighted worse than a casino.

Also, why do the sprite and health-gauge face stay the same no matter which character I choose? Bafflingly, these two don't resemble ANY of the selectable characters--they appear to be created by a different artist in a different style altogether.

I'm not trying to be hard on you. I probably wouldn't have said anything if it weren't for the feeling that there is the potential for a fun game in there. Or if these comments had been made by any of the reviewers on the App Store, but their comments are the general fluff and unhelpful criticism that seems to flourish there.

:siren: ALERT: ACTUALLY WORTH GETTING :siren:

It's pretty blatantly inspired by Binding of Isaac, with three annoyances:

1. I wish it was drag-anywhere to move/shoot rather than virtual D-pads.

2. Instead of being randomly generated with permadeath, it's just one really big (and a little bland) map. Closer to the original Zelda really. But I mean, if you're going to crib from Binding of Isaac, seems like it's kind of missing the point to not have things be randomized/replayable.

3. So much cutesy poo poo on screen that it's really impossible to see anything. You can work through this, but still annoying and really unnecessary.

Also memes *and* videogame references out the rear end. But all pretty forgivable. It's 99 cents and they obviously put some effort into it. Meaty game, lots of messing around with unlocks that change how you attack. They did a pretty good job of revamping the BoI stuff into a game where you can't die and eventually get every bit of equipment.

Is it something with my iPhone 5, or does this seriously only work in portrait?

It's a port, but no one in this thread has recommended my go to http://appshopper.com/games/rogue
. It is a port, but once you get used to the gesture controls I feel it to be fantastic. I've been playing it since my 2G and still come back to it all the time. I think the only two apps I've used more are Awful and Safari. Note for Rogue: Only play in landscape. The portrait mode has sprites, and that is simply not what I am looking for.

On a semi-related note, I also have no regrets on paying for Snipes the day it came out. Not a roguelike, but a classic game. http://appshopper.com/games/snipes

I also have 100 Rogues--crashed too much for too long, I never put more than an hour in, Sword of Fargoal--which is good, but missing the appropriate feeling of danger for me, and Bit Dungeon--closer to Zelda, and absolutely no chance of danger. I know I've tried others, but these are the ones that were of note to me.

For the reflectors, you have to actually exit the puzzle to get the thing to fire (in case you didn't realize). Other than that it's just a matter of trial and error. You have to get the thing to bounce off all of the reflectors, and then land on the X. When fixing the statue, remember that you can rotate, and mirror the pieces. If you have it in the right area it will sort of snap into position.

The problem I'm having with the statue is I end with a full puzzle and an extra piece?

Any goons still playing Say the Same Thing? This game scratches an itch I've always had, but most of my goon partners seem to have stopped or aren't playing often at all. Add SpeakY10k and know, if I'm not playing it is because I work ~50 hours a week bartending, and another 10-20 doing construction--but I play nearly every day, and when I do, I session play.

Not to resurrect the argument, but if people could not make walls-of-text that don't identify the game they are talking about and don't quote anyone, I'd be grateful. With all four currently discussed games being fantasy, I just skip what's being said unless I can tell from the first sentence which game it is. I have Sword and Glory, and could be talked into that tower defense game, and possibly WHQ (the other game is FFT, which I didn't enjoy on PS1, so I'm not going to get it).

Sorry for the wall of text, I want to have a reason to like these games, but I have no idea what game is being talked about in half the posts.

It was a lot of fun, until level 7, where the enemies can attack faster than you, so no matter what strategy you employ, you cannot win. It isn't too common an occurrence; I imagine the localization was a little rushed, leading to these bugs. The way that I've seen questions repeat, the answers change, so there is probably a bank of "actor answers". So, you've got to draw 3 wrong answers for a question and the correct answer. Well, there are probably multiple questions that take "Ben Affleck" as correct,, and instead of linking them as one entry, there are a bunch of repeated unique entries in different spaces.

The repeating questions is more annoying. It's better than ios family feud for sure, but it could still be better. Probably 5 instances of a question being a repeat in more than 500 questions.

One of my favorite games from I-don't-know-how-many-iPhones-ago has a sequel out now. There is no story. It is not hard, at least not to begin with. I think of it as the digital version of popping bubble wrap, and it's not one of those stupid bubble wrap apps.

It is Many Bricks Breaker 2. It is a fairly easy Breakout clone with lots, and lots, of bricks and power ups. The sound effects are vital to enjoyment of this game.

The sound it makes as a gazillion balls crush just as many bricks every second, god, it is catharsis. The antithesis to everything in old games that made me throw the controller in a fit.

The ads suck, but they are only between levels.
