Why does this game run like poo poo on a brand new PC.

I bought medieval in for $2 when it first popped up in the sale, and I got a tool tip for Pirates and Nobles that led me to believe that they were packaged together. I still can't see it in the store.

The Sims is one of those games where the urge to play is extremely powerful, but interest drops off very quickly if you even get slightly bored of it. I'd urge anyone that's about to drop $150 bucks on it to think twice.

The only thing that really holds my interest is buying the biggest lot available and living as a homeless person. There's a new sleeping bag or something that came with one of the ex packs, build an outhouse with one of the public toilets and make everything rusty. It looks pretty cool. I played for 20 mins tonight and just hung out at the gym eating canned soup.

drat, can I run two concurrent save games? This is making me want to re-roll a mad-poo poo character. I guess I do that on the screen as soon as you load the game, as there are 3 slots if I so recall?

You can run infinite saves afaik. You can even run multiple households in the same town.

Only one at a time. The ones you aren't running are sucked into doing whatever story progression tells them to do. For example, if you are using the basic EA story progression for the game, your sims might move out of town to vanish into the ether, or they may become all vampires for no reason only because EA says so.

Yeah, I thought that went without saying.

Oh dear. My homeless sim got abducted by aliens and I'm pretty sure he's pregnant now. I think the chance to be abducted must have something to do with time spent outside because it happened at a festival while I was minding my own business.

You've got a rare opportunity here, my friend, do not squander it!

He just gave birth. It took every simolean I had from gardening to build a mini cabin with the cheapest door/window/lantern that could only fit a crib and the baby sitter (that I called automatically when I left to sell vegetables) took the lantern because I couldn't afford to pay her. He's literally a hobo raising a baby alien in the woods.

I'm jealous of you all and your fancy alien interactions. I have three space rocks of varying size and have yet to receive a visit from beyond. I heard some semi-mechanical alienish laughter but after panning my camera all around it was for naught.

I'm also loving that firefighting story with the random old lady and the mountain hobo raising a space baby.

Well don't worry about panning the camera because when it happens, your sim will go and get abducted by himself. I know this because my guy has controlled sim autonomy off.

My homeless sim's new wife (the town slattern) got abducted. I hope that the mods I have aren't messing with the chance to get abducted because it really seems a bit much, unless it has something to do with the Alien Baby I already have.

I bought this and a bunch of the expansions during the Steam Winter sale. While I'm enjoying the game immensely load/save times are horrendous on a computer which can handle games with much more demanding requirements rather easily. Does Overwatch help with this or is there some setting I should be tweaking?

I dunno man I'm in the same boat. My compy runs The Witcher 2 on Ultra with Uber-sampling enabled, no sweat, but this game brings it to a halt.

So I ran the game patched to 1.47 but with v1.42 mods installed and it seemed to work fine? Something will inevitably gently caress up so I made sure to back my saves up.

What's funny is that the patch notes mention fixing the bug with custom world save files not appearing on the main menu. My Union Cove save still isn't on the main menu. :colbert:

EDIT: The thing about The Sims 3 is that it has no FPS limiter. That means if you have a brand new expensive video card, it'll happily run your game at 90+ FPS for no reason. The Awesomemod guy has a fix for it but it doesn't seem to work with the latest patch/steam version.

Is that why the game runs like crap?

Seasons and supernatural makes gardening nigh impossible. 1. your plants are frozen for half the year, and 2. zombies spawn once a week and kill everything. My dude is an adult and I haven't even got close to making a second generation of any plants.

The reputation mechanics are so dumb. I confessed to cheating, because my aforementioned town slattern wife having completed her lifetime wish of loving people around town (no, seriously, that's a new wish) was building up a reputation for some reason. I didn't want her to leave the household at this point because the harsh winter and constant hordes of zombies weren't kind to Archibald Goonsire's bank account, and the wife's Journalism job was bringing in just enough money to get by (seriously, I started out homeless, and I'm almost and elder and I still haven't got anything more than the basic frills in my house). So I seek to avoid having the news come back to bite me, eat the bad moodlet for confessing, which results in an automatic breakup on expiration for some reason, and slowly rebuild my sim's lives so they can continue eking out their meagre existences in peace. Nope, the very crimes I confessed came back through rep and now the marriage that had already been through one divorce is utterly torpedoed. Not to mention my Alien son is a teenager that still talks to his imaginary friend.

The "features" in this game are so retarded and frustrating. I've managed one Harvest in Spring be cause of how long it took my plants to get back to non-dormant, and now they just turned dormant again even though it's 10 celsius in the Spring.. Without Seasons I would have already maxed out gardening long ago.

edit: with all this garbage that you have to go through growing plants outside, you'd think they would have added a functional green house to the game with the ex pack.

Nothing is as aggravating in a small house as a large dog with the lazy trait. When they lie down, they seem to create a 2x2 forcefield around them which will gently caress with pathfinding. They also take way too long to get up, and their lazy trait ensures they'll be doing it a lot.

I think pets is one of the most worthless expansions. I dunno what dogs can do, but I found that a cat was just one more annoying mouth to feed. I assume that finding critters can turn into something lucrative eventually though???

I've got 5 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs and a cat in my (ginormous) house.
The important bits (for me) are:
Active Sim Factor Reduction: 5 - this slows down time by 5% for each sim beyond the first.
Fun Factor: 50 - this makes things like computers and whatnot less interesting than they are by default, so your sims won't waste their lives playing SSX and dancing to the radio.
Set Speed: 17 - I selected this speed based on what someone else in this thread wound up using after some 'cut and try'. My game is running even slower than that because of all the sims in the house.
Switch Speed On Fast: 34 - Right now, with all the extra sims, pets, etc., coupled with the overall slowdown of Set Speed=17, nights, work time and "finish this task" speedups were taking FOREVER. This sets the speed back to normal during Fast Time, so Fast time passes just as fast as an unaltered game. 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep takes ~2 minutes at Ultra Speed, not the five and a half it would take at speed 17 (including all the 5% modifiers for the extra people).

Thanks, dude.
