^^Yes, but is he a bad enough dude to save Rome from Spartacus's ravaging hordes?

Loved the cheesy sound effect when Sparty raised the Roman standard. This is shaping up to be a great season.

That, and the kid had no idea Spartacus was down there. Tibby was willing to give away the element of surprise and lose a bunch of his men to kill a handful of slaves and pirates. That's a stupid move regardless.

I'm so glad this show is back. I was worried after GotA and Season 2 that the show was slipping, but holy poo poo these last few episodes were as good as anything from the first season.

The show has always been biased against sword and shield characters. Spartacus sucked too before he switched to a duel-wielding build.

I thought about this, I kinda figured that he saved him because Nemetes was aware that Caesar saw him being attacked, and if he were to survive it would have been hard to answer why he didn't step in.

As cool as Caesar's wicked rad knife throw was, he's supposed to be a shepherd with no formal combat training. Kinda strange that his actions didn't raise any eyebrows among the people who were specifically looking for signs that he was a Roman spy.

Isn't it a little cold for everybody to be walking around wearing nothing but their loinclothes? I mean, I like ogling the boys as much as the next guy, but people are literally freezing to death. You'd think Sparty could dig up a few fur chaps for his generals.

Also, did anyone else almost fall out of their seat when they did the camera roll? (the cinematography in this show is incredible)

Crixus's death was the first time I reacted viscerally to a character's death since Spartacus was forced to kill Varro (which makes sense, I guess, since both deaths were about a vastly superior force using its power to utterly crush a likable underdog).

I don't think we're supposed to hate Naevia; we just do because she's a poorly written and acted character. I definitely blame the producers more than the actress because she really wasn't given a character arc after her rape tour of Rome. She became this one-note angry, aggressive person and its hard, as a viewer, to understand why she commands so much affection from Crixus. It would've been nice if we got to see her soften over the years and had some insight into her relationship with Crixus aside from their sexual escapades.

I think the finale encapsulates everything that we loved doing with this show. It has the romance, it has the amazing action, but it has an emotional core. It is just a gut-wrenching story, the way it unfolds. And I think the last two scenes of the finale are as powerful as anything we've ever done.

Yeah it also explands the motivations of all the other characters such as why Ashur had such a big feud with Crixus and also why Solonius is at odds with Batatius.

One could argue all those relationships didn't need expanding and he'd be right. However, the prequel is worth watching for Gannicus because, unlike every other thing in the prequel, his character and initial motivation aren't really explored in the numbered seasons.

Syndication censorship update, courtesy of the AV Club:

quote:

Syfy Slice-And-Dice: This is one of the most re-edited episodes yet, with many scenes reframed or edited to remove female nudity. For example, during Licinia’s mask selection, CGI tunics are added to some of the slaves and Mira’s scenes with Spartacus are reframed and feature CGI-heightened shadows. Lucretia’s milk bath scene is reframed similarly, the slaves preparing Spartacus for his rendezvous with Ilithyia are cleverly cut around or have CGI breast bands added, and in their encounter, Ilithyia’s hair is lengthened to cover her nipples. An extra curtain is added across the reveal of the golden Spartacus, to obscure the episode’s only full-frontal male nudity, and their sex scene is chopped up considerably, with a commercial break added after Ilithyia’s walk towards Spartacus; the entire sequence edited down considerably, greatly diminishing its effectiveness. Batiatus’ rape of his slave is also cut entirely, as are a few other lines of dialogue, mostly for swearing.

I was just rewatching War of the Damned and in the third or fourth episode there is a little piano thing that plays when Ceasar and The Mad oval office are baiting Crixus into killing the Romans. I don't have a point, its just an eerily effective and cool musical cue that's unlike anything else in the series that I thought worth mentioning.
