I just launched two from the start of the level on an old map I used to have to deal with at the start of EU alot, and when I moved up and triggered the first spawn that is always there two of the floaters died in the initial explosion and a third ran to cover behind a car which exploded as soon as he got to it and also died.

Did you ever play the original game? There were weapons called Blaster Launchers that you clicked waypoints for, even through areas you can't see, so if you have a good idea of the map layout ahead of time you could just shoot a bunch of high yield explosives to every key alien spawn on the first turn and kill the gently caress out of everything, including on the last mission where the objective was killing the mother brain and the map is always fixed, so all you needed to do was lob a couple bombs in there around a dozen corners and hallways to win.

Non-aimed explosives are just :xcom:

I've been getting a lot of interface errors (which I believe might be tied in to my mouse issue that will frequently double-register all of my clicks) where menus will just break and stop working when I'm in the base doing pretty much any kind of navigation. I'll either be unable to press escape to get to the main menu, or get an item description window stuck in the middle of my screen, or have none of the top buttons bring me to anything and just make my screen flash.

It's incredibly obnoxious because most of the time it forces me to reload to my last save in order to keep playing, and since sometimes it will start up immediately upon coming back from a mission I've had to redo a few of them once or twice.

Is this a common thing that there may be a fix for, or am I just kind of hosed?

That's the minimum damage for a basic shotgun, happens to me all the time too. Being close only increases the crit chance, not the damage minimum.

Also yeah, gently caress Thin Men in classic. Nine damage criticals on full covered dudes from across the map are horseshit.

It's even recommended to skip it because if I recall correctly it forces a terrible building layout and also wastes time and money you should be spending elsewhere in the first couple months.

Is Close Combat Specialist not supposed to work on drones and other flying units? Because one of my assaults with it had a bunch of drones move right next to him and did absolutely nothing. Fully loaded gun, too.

I really like the Canada start. Sure, it messes up your layout and forces you to build unoptimal early power to take down later, but it gets you to the point where you're trading sectoid corpses for scientists faster and that's really important.

It depends on the type of map you'd be using it on, but Squad Sight is generally a lot more useful because Snap Shots can't hit for dick anyways.

The repair system is loving horrible and airgame is even worse than it used to be. I love long war, but goddamn does this particular aspect of it suck.

What .ini lines do I need to change to make repairs less bullshit and to make Meld more accessible? And are either of those things changeable without making restarting mandatory?

It's worse to start with and gets a bit better over time, from my experience. That's mostly anecdotal though.
