I'm looking to catch up on the DS/3DS hosed up game genre. Do I have many options? Actual genre doesn't matter, I just want some dark, bleak horrorish games. Could be ghosts, murder, possession, zombies, whatever. I just started RE:R and it made me realize that horror works really well on portable game systems. You really get sucked in.

I just started 999 after getting it in the mail earlier. I'm a stupid fps man punching grr grr violence loving froglord so it's a bit dense but I'm liking it. I just met everyone and though it's very gameplay lite so far it's quite engaging. I really hope I stick with it because I can sense the story is going to be great.

Just wondering is there any reason why my girlfriend and I can't take turns each play through? There's only one save and I can't figure out if anything carries over ng+ style.

Both versions are great honestly. Get whatever works best for you and looks the most comfortable and fun. I have an XL and my girlfriend has a regular. She likes the fat yet tiny book like feel and I like the big sleek feel. You can't really make a bad choice. The XL is a very good purchase for the price though.

So how good is Denpa Men really? I tried the demo and loved it and I'd like a good rpg to have on my 3DS. Searching around and finding things in real life seems like a cool aspect too.

Can I get these prices by walking in the store and buying there? I don't want to order them or use the buy/pickup in store option.

Has anyone noticed the ghosting (haha ghosts) in Luigi's Mansion? I love the 3D in the game but it gets a little distracting past the lowest settings. That aside it's an amazing game and totally worth owning a 3DS for. That + Fire Emblem + Bioshock Infinite this week. Best purchases I've made for a while.

Ghosting (or more accurately, crosstalk) is an unavoidable side-effect when you use lots of contrasting colours/palettes, such as having Luigi shine a bright light around a dark room. The new Castlevania game has a bunch of it, too, mostly due to having relatively bright/colourful characters moving over drab backgrounds with a ton of depth to 'em.

Interesting, I never knew that. Definitely makes sense though.

There are a few rather good-looking RPGs coming up as well for the 3DS, if nothing so far is your bag. SMT IV, Soul Hackers, the new Rune Factory, Pokemon X/Y are a few I can recall off the top of my head.

I don't know why you edited that bit yeah, the 3DS library is fantastic and is just getting better and better. For a while I was worried iOS games would pull me away but there's just so much on the 3DS you can't get anywhere else. Not to mention the 3D is uniquely awesome and the controls and feel of the console are really nice. Mainly with the XL.

I'm going in for some surgery in about a month and will need to stay in bed for around four days or so. Since I can't take digital devices to work aside from my phone (crazy government paranoia) can I really expect to get a ton of use from the 3DS?

The 3DS is the most unique console out and the games you play on it will mostly be original to the platform and not very similar to what you can get elsewhere. The 3D is really cool too. Go for it.

So I just put in the codes for my XL and Dark Moon and I can't decide which game to pick. I want a game that really makes sense to have digitally, something I will want to always have on my system to boot up randomly for 15 minutes or so. I'm thinking Star Fox. My girlfriend owns Layton so I can play that whenever and I'd rather get Mario via physical copy some day. Good idea to go for Star Fox yeah?

I got Star Fox. You can easily play it in short bursts so owning it digitally works great for me. As for the game itself, it's quality. Great controls and the 3D effects work perfectly. Lots of replayability too.

My favorite thing about Nintendo is constantly getting new versions of things I've loved for years. gently caress it, I'll be buying Mario games in ten years from now. Same with Pokemon. I still enjoy quite a few things I enjoyed at age 10 so why should it be different with games? There's enough variety out there for people who want something new and different. Shoot me dead with nostalgia you repetitive bastards.

Prospective buyer question, looking for a little input really.

I am a PC gamer and always have been, but since my new job (PC heavy) I am finding myself not wanting to sit on a PC in my spare time now, I literally hate it almost :( . I love the pokemon games and am on the verge of getting an XL, pokemon black and the charger (the box has NO charging features right?!).

Part of me wonders if handheld gaming will satisfy my gaming needs? I know for sure Pokemon will as that game has a rock solid formula.

I know in my heart I will go out and get one tomorrow regardless, but just interested to hear from other pc gaming heavy goons if the ds has a place in your heart, or if its just a flash in the pan. The idea of not being glued to a PC desk is very appealing right now, and also 200 hours on pokemon grinding!

There's nothing like the 3DS. The only thing it compares to is previous Nintendo handhelds. The popular games are usually unique and not similar to anything you'd get elsewhere. The 3DS/DS has a really good mix of "mobile" casual pick up and play games and tons of deep games you can sink hours into. There's a good chance you could use your 3DS for years and never have to play something that feels like a port or rehash of what you see on the pc/consoles. I used to be heavy into PC gaming and now I hate it and only play a few random games on a computer per year so I can relate to what you're looking for. There's nothing like chilling on a comfy couch and sinking hours into Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Castlevania, Mario, whatever else you like.

^too many words for yes buy it, it's an awesome console.

Animal Crossing isn't a game you can play badly really. If you have neglected your town your villagers will just be happier when you come around and tidy things up. They might say a few negative things but that's as far as it will go before things start moving on as usual. It's like the anti-farmville when it comes to feeling forced to play constantly. The reason you'll want to pick it up is to have more fun and spend time in town.

Has anyone noticed that iOS/mobile gaming has made you less, uh, persistent on "real" portable games? I've noticed that since getting hooked on iOS games for the last few years has killed my patience and attention span for a lot of full games. Sometimes I feel like I don't stick with 3DS games because they're not made for idiots to play on the pooper for 5 minutes. Luckily I'm almost completely burned on the idea of phone/tablet games outside of a handful of timewasters and I'm retraining myself to stick with full games and get a lot of satisfaction out of them.

I haven't found an iOS game worth playing, beyond standard chess and solitaire games. I liked Candy Crush, but was told that at a certain level (60-something?) you have to actually get three people to send you tickets so that you can keep unlocking levels, so I promptly deleted that game.

Angry Birds is okay as well, but I don't really like physics based puzzles that don't involve companion cubes :colbert:

I don't really see my 3DS as portable, anyway. I'm only ever playing it while sitting in my living room,

There are a lot of great games on iOS but something about the platform just doesn't pull me in anymore. I'd rather browse the Internet/read on my phone and have it around when I'm out and need to waste time.

And yeah you're right, I always use my 3DS in the house. That's why I never feel like sitting down and playing an iOS game for hours now, they can't compete. When I want something casual to play I can just grab Animal Crossing anyway.
