Carly shook her glass, willing the ice to melt. "You still haven't told me what the mission is."

I can't believe Carly is going to save pop music again and ME! was found dead in a ditch.

New CRJ is pretty good for an album that doesn't have Run Away With Me on it.

The new Carly is ok, I LOVE Too Much, but most of the songs sound the same and there’s not a lot of variety here. Still fun to listen to, and a lot better than Me! and the disappointing Madonna tracks.

I really like the playfulness of Want You in My Room, what a fun track. Happy Not Knowing is such a jam too, it's a shame both songs are so short! I feel like they could go on forever and never get old. Too Much is probably the standout track of this album but Julien is really growing on me, too. Nothing on Dedicated quite reaches the heights of Run Away With Me, but that's one of the greatest pop songs ever written, so I can't fault. Overall Dedicated feels chiller, groovier, but unmistakably Carly.

I think I really like that Want You In My Room is shortish, but also overall I feel like Dedicated is almost the opposite in terms of instrumentation as Emotion, it seems much sparer and "cooler" if that makes any sense? I dunno, all I know is this album rules and I am mad at myself for not buying tickets for the NYC show since they're a hundo each now.

It’s no EMOTION but nothing will be. This is still an amazing pop album that expands her pool of 80s inspirations out from pure bubble gum pop to Prince, Hall and Oates and a lot more. That makes it feel less cohesive but it still bops straight through. Emotion is an A+ but this is likely an A or A-

She didn't just come here to dance (it's about loving)

I know, but it's way more explicit full album now. EMOTION really bridges the gap between her teen character Call Me Maybe days and this which is more straightforward in its maturity and I quite appreciate that. You can't be 30 singing like you're 16 forever.

I guess this will be controversial in this thread, but I like Dedicated even better than Emotion. And I really really liked Emotion. Although Dedicated doesn't have a high point as high as Run Away With Me, it feels more consistently good throughout the album. I think vocally the album is more diverse than Emotion even if it isn't as diverse instrumentally. There also isn't a single song I want to reflexively skip like LA Hallucinations.

The standout track for me is I'll Be Your Girl. That driving 3/4 beat juxtaposed against some surprisingly dark lyrics really grabs me.

I'll Be Your Girl really slaps, something about it is reminding me of the Erasure album The Innocents. May be the 3/4 time, I think Witch in the Ditch has a similar structure. I'm loving every track on the album pretty much. I agree that it's a bit more cohesive than Emotion. Too early for me to say which is better. My faves are still Want You In My Room and Happy Not Knowing.

LA Hallucinations is great tho, the bridge is kind of goofy but other than that it's very fun and gets stuck in my head all the time.

"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

i physically can't say that this album is as good as Emotion (like I think my brain would stop the words from coming out of my mouth) because there was a period of a month in my life where I basically listened to nothing but that album. I've listened to it hundreds upon hundreds of times and then when the B-Sides came out and it was basically another half an album of the perfection that the highest songs on Emotion reach that I absorbed into my being.

so obviously Dedication isn't gonna be that. But I do love it very much, and alongside the singles, I think Want You In My Room, Happy Not Knowing and The Sound are real highlights, and some of the songs have really obvious influences that are very different from Emotion, which makes for some nice variety. I'll Be Your Girl sounds like it's very ska influenced, and Automatically In Love sounds like it could have been on a Mariah album circa 1995 and fit perfectly.

The down points are probably Feels Good (A: I don't need a male voice on a CRJ album thank you sorry Electric Guest and B: the piano-driven-ness of it all is very 8 years ago) and Right Words Wrong Time which is just kinda "eh".

Eventually I'm gonna adjust my Master CRJ playlist to finally take off a few songs from the Emotion cycle that I like less than the 20 perfect songs from that era and put probably about half of this album on there and it's all going to merge together (plus whatever cool guest appearances she has for other people like Supernatural or Love Me Like That), and honestly it will probably help me to appreciate the best parts of Dedication more because it definitely has more variety than Emotion, which is a lot more in the same wheelhouse.

edit: (note: this is not a ranking, but a playlist that I think has a good flow to it that includes high points from Emotion, Side B and Dedicated
Dedicated/Emotion
1. Run Away With Me
2. I Really Like You
3. Cut to the Feeling
4. All That
5. Now That I Found You
6. Want You In My Room
7. Never Get To Hold You
8. Too Much
9. Cry
10. Happy Not Knowing
11. Fever
12. Your Type
13. Higher

The first half of this post is correct but the second half of this post is well-meaning but wrong

Cut to the Feeling is actually the second best song from Emotion even though it isn’t on the album, because it’s basically like injecting pure joy, hope, and optimism into your heart for 3 minutes.
