Love this so much

quote:

You are somebody that we don't know
But you're comin' at my friends like a missile
Why are you mad when you could be GLAAD? (You could be GLAAD)
Sunshine on the street at the parade
But you would rather be in the dark ages
Makin' that sign must've taken all night

You just need to take several seats and then try to restore the peace
And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate
'Cause shade never made anybody less gay

I really like it.

I'm still not at all sure where the album is going as a whole but it's a strong return after the traditional shitpile of a lead single.

Hngh "shade never made anyone less gay" is driving me insane. Homophobia.... isn't shade. The GLAAD line is also egregiously bad. Performative allies shut the gently caress up

She leaned forward. "We are going to assassinate the bad men of Hollywood."

That is maybe the worst pop song I've ever heard in my life. Self-indulgent lyrics with already dated lingo, lazy songwriting from the same script Swift has been running into the ground for the past five years, worst of all it's not a bop.

I'd accept that any of this was more than a marketing ploy if there weren't 4 different deluxe versions coming out each with different content.

someone told me that the song is actually pro-lgbt+ and I mean, I guess the lyrics used the words GLAAD? I don't see how the shade line can be anything else than throwing the word gay as a insult.

I think the problem with the lyrics (other than just being lazy pandering) is that they're sort of a rewrite of the Beach Boys' awful "Student Demonstration Time" in which a person who is not affected by a movement or the anti-movement sings a song to the effect of "Hey guys, just stop arguing about this!" It's so careful not to take sides, not to offend, that its non-committal attitude actually becomes offensive in and of itself.

So yeah, great work Taylor.

"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

i don't understand why we're talking about the incredibly White Lady Pro-Gay second verse of this song (which is unexpected and "alright fine good for you" at best) and completely ignoring the fact that, once again, Taylor Swift is incapable of letting any slight against her, real or perceived, go. Listening to this song made me feel roughly the way I felt after listening to the embarrassing song about Kim K from the last album.

The worst part is, the song actually sounds pretty good. If she hadn't made it an entire drat song about Twitter trolls i'd probably really like it, especially after how generic ME! was. this song is definitely not generic

i say that anyone who talks about how great the song is because it's pro-LGBTQA should be sat down and forced to listen to Born This Way on repeat until they repent. This is the music equivalent of one of those corporations on Twitter tweeting a picture of their logo, but a rainbow.

edit: Taylor, what do you have to say about the song?

quote:

It’s about how I’ve observed a lot of different people in our society who just put so much energy and effort into negativity, and it just made me feel like, “You need to just calm down, like you’re stressing yourself out. This seems like it’s more about you than what you’re going off about. Like, just calm down.”

i'm pretty sure Taylor posts in D&D about how annoying Bernie Bros are after reading this

I honestly like it, I dig the production and melody. The lyrics are trying too hard much of the time, but even during the pre-chorus at 34 seconds I really dig the sort of weird internal rhyme scheme it has going on for it.

Seriously, even if I didn’t like the song (which I do, it’s dope), the list of people/songs it’s kept from becoming #1 is staggering. Shawn Mendes, Billie Eillish, Post Malone, a Bieber/Sheeran duet and not one but two Taylor Swift singles, all peaked at #2 behind Lil Nas X.

I think his name is supposed to be a reference to several musicians.

Maybe Old Town Road is Billy Ray trying to join in on his two daughters entering the charts with modern country-ish collaborations.
