I'll admit: I can't give less of a poo poo about Sette. She's had enough growth I'm past disliking her - I just don't find her at all interesting or sufficiently amusing to warrant spotlight over the entire rest of the cast. But Cope loves her, and she's sufficiently implied in the past that she's the main character (and that she derives morbid amusement of Sette upsetting or turning people off the comic entirely) even as she takes the time to develop others and the world around them.

I think a lot of this is in line with the recent tumblr poll she posted. It's basically "which character would you want to make out with?" (kind of weird but whatever) and Cope is all "Wow I can't believe everyone has the hots for Elka!". In reality it is almost certainly because Elka is the lone adult female on the poll so she by default gets all the votes by anyone who prefers women that bothered to vote. Does Ashley think this was a masterstroke and she knew it was a loaded question, or is it just her weird perspective on things? Hard to say. I still think she writes good characters though.

Completely agree. Elka is cool and it seems pretty obvious that her and Toma are being set up to belong together, which being Unsounded, means it probably won't happen due to some tragedy. That poll was dumb though and destined to give misleading results, regardless of Elka's badassery.

Given the way he operates, I'd wager there's a kernel of truth to it, but the rest is deliberate misdirection. Telling a scared, self-conscious child who's desperate for your approval they're a freak who's all alone in the world and nobody else wants them, "But don't worry, I love you (so long as you're useful)" is textbook gaslighting.
