Though they skew a bit more metal their first album has a very psychedelic feel to it. The band released one album and then stopped giving any sort of poo poo about the project. The two best things are A) Whoever does that drumming is ridiculous (The good type of ridiculous.) and B) They sound freakishly like the Beatles in so many ways, my friend actually thought the vocalist was John Lennon after listening to around 5 of the songs. They do sound like the unbirthable offspring of John and Paul though in a way, so the guess wasn't too far off.

Most of his music is up on his bandcamp here and is mostly name your own price. Just check out Ragged Glory, it's the high water mark for Crazy Horse material in my opinion.

Good thread. Second'd on Spacemen 3, Black Angels, etc. Also, if you like lo-fi, nightmarish psychedelia, the Hospitals' "Hairdryer Peace" is a great one. You have to give it some time to sink in, but it rewards multiple listens, and there are some catchy, even head nod-worthy melodies buried within its harrowing blasts of noise. Here's a good review of it, and here's one of its most "accessible" "songs." Also also, has anyone else ever tried to listen to To Live and Shave in L.A.'s "The Wigmaker in Eighteenth Century Williamsburg?" This is one of the most--if not the most--psychedelic albums I've ever heard, but goddamn, I find it impenetrable. And it's like two-and-a-half hours long! Here's a sample.

As much as I like Madlib, this is a pretty uncreative use of one of Van Dyke Parks' best songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3eFNx782Cg Song Cycle is one of the great, unsung psych/baroque pop albums. It's difficult to accurately describe the album's sound--it's kind of like a fusion of post-acid Beach Boys, turn-of-the-century pop, Charles Ives and some Mothers-style studio fuckery thrown in for good measure. Lyrically, it's incredibly dense. Parks has named Lawrence Ferlinghetti and James Joyce as two of his biggest influences on his early lyrics, and I don't think the comparison is too far off. Every line is packed with puns, obtuse wordplay, and double or triple meanings, examining America's military history, civil rights, and the creative bankruptcy of the music industry in the process (though it's worth noting that Song Cycle was, at the time, the most expensive album ever produced).
