Wildwhat?
Wildstar is a new action-oriented MMO that takes place on the newly discovered planet Nexus, developed by Carbine; a studio founded by 17 members of the core vanilla WoW team.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4_riSI7Ydg

Whatstar?
There's opposing factions, really unique races, a path system to point people towards the content they enjoy, player housing, and the whole thing looks like a Pixar movie.

Paths

Your path is a choice made at character creation which determines what extra content the world dishes up for you. Generally, they respond to the player personalities in the Bartle test (killer, explorer, socializer, etc). But don't just take my word for it, read this Polygon Article on Wildstar's paths.

Housing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScEliEh2_Xo

What about Raiding?
Wildstar will have 40-person raids, which has proven to be somewhat controversial, and people in this thread cannot shut up about it.

Sounds good, but what'll it cost me?
The Pricing Plan
Wildstar will have a typical subscription system, but with the added layer of the C.R.E.D.D. system, which is somewhat similar to EVE's PLEX. Players will essentially be able to earn currency in-game that they can then sell for gold to other players, allowing them to pay for time.

Alright, I'm convinced. When can I play?
Carbine is taking an "it's ready when it's ready" approach, but right now are shooting for a Spring 2014 release. Currently it's in closed beta, and the NDA has been lifted for some specific streamers to show levels 1-15. You can check them out on twitch. Beta keys are being given out slowly and in waves, though if you know someone in beta you should bug them for a friend key.

The best way to get into the beta is to apply here, then fill out this survey. You should also check out the Wildstar Beta key Begging & Exchange Thread.

People were talking about it. We had a thread that fell into archives a while ago. Personally, I lost all interest because NCSoft owns it. :smith: Even if the game itself does look good.

NCSoft has never worked on a game this long or extensively before though, so I wouldn't write it off. Also in all the interviews about the game they talk about end game a lot and make it sound like everything in the game was build around end game which is really smart considering how SWTOR and GW2 turned out. And NCSoft is just the producing it, while Carbine Studios is making it, and this is their first game.

Inflammatory nonsense aside, I'm really interested in Wildstar, because this trend of action combat MMOs feels like it needs to hit the sweet spot soon or it's going to stop happening. That said, there isn't a whole lot of info about the game yet and that worries me, but the previews sound promising.

Yeah I think every Wednesday they will be revealing more details now. They also said they will show a lot at PAX.

There's at least one video that was missed. Might want to add this one. It shows the Dominion faction's early gameplay. Which until I watched that I didn't even know you could play as.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4GES7-v-cs

Sadly, it lacks focus on the Not-Imperium of Man or the Not-Necrons. Which look a hell of a lot more interesting than the space hillbilly faction's races.

Instead, it mostly focuses on the "nature" (Which appears to be the inverse of the furry bunny girl side.) race of the dominion. Which if the video is any indication are a cross between satyrs, a giant lizard, and Satan.

Either way, there's some pretty :black101: stuff in there either way. And they showed off some of the vehicle and event content. Like aerial gunships, and giant suicide rhinos.

The actual content of the game looks pretty good. Albeit a little rough around the edges. Until I can play it though, my money's on NCSoft loving it up or trying to sabotage the company because "We must support eastern Korean grindathon MMO's only! :supaburn:", though.

Also, if nothing else, the trailers keep ripping into the furry races and the kind of people likely to play them. Which is hilarious.

Thank I added gameplay vids for both of the factions. They didn't have the videos on their main site, and I didn't think to check their Youtube cause I just figured their main site would have it all.

I really wish they would make a video on character customization. I'm going to be really disappointed if it works like PSO or if Humans are the only ones with two genders.

I'm pretty hyped about this game too, looking promising up until now. But so did other games. So I wonder how much credit we can put on Jeremy Gaffney' words.

Does anyone know who the other developers are that are in Carbine' team? Because Jeremy Gaffney keeps saying they have such a high amount of expertise in their team. That their developers have worked on a lot of 'big' MMO and RPG games in the past, but I can't seem to find any information as to who they actually are and what they did.

I don't know who specifically, but I do know on Blizzard Entertainment's wikipedia page it says that Carbine Studios was made by people that used to be Blizzard employees, so I'd assume people that worked on wow.

On their company site it says "we worked on a lot of them: titles like World of Warcraft, Everquest 1 and 2, Warhammer Online, City of Heroes, Free Realms, Diablo II, StarCraft. We've also had our hands in some other games you might recognize, like Fallout, Metroid Prime, and...well, you get the point." So I'd assume they only hired people from other mmo companies for the most part.

They're standard enemies in the esper/explorer gameplay video a few posts up. In (pre-Cataclysm) WoW, they'd be leper gnomes.

Unless things have changed since the already-mentioned video, path is selected at chargen.

e: To add to that, paths just appear to be alternate sets of chained quests. Presumably, they did this so you can level up 4 characters per faction without too much repetition.

In the commentary of that video he descried them as "An indigenous race of goblin shaman like people." I don't think it be that out there to think there could be a race of people native of nexus on each faction, or sense you compared them to leper gnomes there could be a faction/bread of them that is smarter/friendly like normal gnomes.

They also said that because the Exiles and the Dominion have just gotten to Nexus they wouldn't have any big cities and just some settlements, so if they had two races from Nexus then they could have capitals for those races for the factions to use.

They don't match the glimpses we've had of the factions' fourth races at all. The Exile fourth race is very clearly a Necron knockoff of some sort, similar to the Arisen in Allods; it may be that they're the animated remains of the race that once inhabited the planet and left behind all those artifacts.

Yeah I guess that's true. I hope they become part of the exiles at some point in an expansion or something.

In the new concept art they showed with all off the housing stuff they have all of the exile houses.

But then they also have these, and they fit the description and glimpse we've seen of the 4th exile race, so I think it's pretty safe to assume these are the 4th exile race.
