One of my most cherished experiences was when Twitch decided to do a full-on Power Rangers marathon 24/7 and ran through all the series' + Stage Show + supplemental Videos (JDF Teaches YOU the White Ranger Kata!).
It was absolutely a blast to see a whole section of the net discover this dumb show I loved, and then loved it enough to develop callbacks during scenes. Putties would get the chat slammed with people posting BLUB BLUB BLUB. And Once Tommy came on board, there was a "TOMMY CARRIES" chant because you knew it was all over once they called in the Dragonzord.

Just a nice spontaneous creation of microculture for something shared and appreciated.

I read a document on TV Tropes about the memes that were formed in that chat-"TOMMY AFK" and then later just "(name) AFK" for when stock footage kept Tommy/another character out of the action, typing the theme song's lyrics whenever the melody of the season was playing even in instrumental form, "MOM GET THE CREDIT CARD" for when a new weapon/Zord debuted, typing gibberish whenever someone on the show used a computer, etc.

Yo Taxi!

Genuine question, I heard some people mention he didn't seem well at the last Power Morphicon. I looked up some videos, and there's a ton of footage of him mentioning he's tired of covering up his tattoos, and that someone thought he doesn't fit the image expected of him. Did whomever owns the Power Rangers IP these days give him poo poo over his appearance?

Since coming back for Forever Red, he's had to cover his tattoos, which is why from then on he's always in long sleeves and bulky jackets.

I think it was earlier in this thread that I wrote about JDF and how people grossly overstated what kind of person he was.

I, personally, will miss him and he made my childhood brighter. It's a tragedy that this happened.

I saw a lot of people were always quick to jump to the conclusion that he participated in the homophobic bullying of David Yost, even though Yost said it was crew and behind the camera people. But they were really close.

The best variant of (name) AFK was during the Abaranger episode of Dino Thunder where the chat caught on real quick with ASUKA AFK.

The chat hated Justin from Turbo so much that they started calling any character they didn't like [X] JUSTIN.

The Twitch marathon was loving amazing and it is a crime that it wasn't archived.

People frame it like it's some cowardly or selfish act, but suicide — like addiction — is really just a lack of resources to pull upon in the face of overwhelming pain.

The thoughts convince you that you're doing everybody a favor. That the world will be better off without you. It's a fantastic liar.

It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem that has convinced you it will never, ever end.

Yeah... And sometimes it goes on long enough (in my case 5 years) that you have good reason to think it will never end.

I can't imagine the pain he was dealing with. gently caress depression.

That's the thing about mental health issues. When you're struggling so bad on the inside, you get blinded to how things really are. I just wish he could have gotten the help he needed.

LividLiquid

Exactly. And the other problem is that when you talk openly about having experienced bouts of suicidal ideation, everybody tells you to reach out if you ever get there again, but if you ever do, people accuse you of faking it for attention and then they loving disappear out of your life forever.

You will never have less attention than when people find out you're suicidal, and this only has to happen once before you decide to never, ever reach out again and it adds to the "I'm actually just a huge burden" noise, which did not need the help.

poo poo, I mentioned in a Discord server for my local friends that I was extremely happy my transition basically cured my dawn-to-dusk suicidal thoughts that had lasted 26 straight years from 9 to 37 and one of them loving yelled at me and called me manipulative. It's a topic people really don't know how to deal with and my "always brutal honesty" approach rubs everybody the wrong way right up until they get suicidal themselves and then they call me to talk, which is why I will never, ever stop doing it and nobody else should either. This is way more common than people realize and the shame will kill you as quickly as the sadbrains.

So I'm curious: With regard to Izzy and Fern in Dino Fury, have any interviews or comments come out about how hard/easy it was for them to get a lesbian relationship into Power Rangers? Was it a "We had to really push for it" situation or was it more of a "They were totally cool with it" kinda deal?
