I went back to see if this had been posted but couldn't see it

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/230659454/scribble-a-revolutionary-pen-that-draws-in-any-col
The Scribble is a revolutionary pen that can scan colors from any object and INSTANTLY reproduce the color on paper or a digital screen

But now a completely different thing is seeking funds.

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/cronzy-pen-over-16-million-colors-in-your-pocket-art-gadgets#/
Just scan any object or click on the application on your smartphone, choose any color you like and start writing or drawing.

Now with the benefit of this thread I can recognise the 'featured on wall' as a warning sign.

From the Kickstarter 'rules'

Projects that involve the development of physical products must feature explicit demos of working prototypes. While you can run a project focused on the creation of a prototype, you can't offer the product that is under development as a reward.

I mean, Valve, Sony and Oculus can't do it as well as this guy can. Obviously.

It's up there with 'they can't arrest you if they're not wearing a hat.' Or 'Admiralty law'. Hilarious until you realise the person telling you is deadly serious.

The NexD1 by Next Dynamics is the first 3D printer to ever give high end prototyping capabilities to everyone by making Multi-Material, 3D Electronics printing, extreme precision, high reliability and fast printing times available in one exciting machine.

We took the most advanced, industrial 3D printing technology called PolyJet™, optimized and reconfigured it and shrunk the cost radically.

We call it DigiJet.

DigiJet technology is able of print a wide range of materials, including special resins with nano-particles or pigments.

Nano particles! Pigments!

Slick video
Sketchy technical details
Wall of media links

Seems almost too good to be true...

quote:

Unlike other 3D printer manufacturers like Stratasys®, Objet® or 3D Systems® that buy their printhead technology from big companies like Ricoh® and Xerox®, we have developed our own proprietary printhead. This has allowed us to drastically reduce production costs, increase the capabilities of our printer and offer unrivaled value to backers.
Unlike these well established companys with vast economies of scale and logistics we can save costs by developing and manufacturing our own bespoke copy of a probably patented technology.
(Hint: objet is a printer made by statasys, not a manufacturer)

But since the transactions were made in Florida when I was making withdrawals elsewhere the bank reversed them and that was the end of it. I can't even remember if they replaced the card, I'm not sure they did.

A US start-up that sells a wi-fi connected juicing machine for $399 (Ł310), has offered refunds after the gadget was mocked on social media.

Juicero makes the bulk of its sales by supplying pouches of pre-cut fruit and vegetables which fit the contraption.

But the product was ridiculed by some after it emerged how the sachets could be squeezed just as easily by hand.
Chief executive Jeff Dunn said the criticism overlooked the "experience" of the machine.

He claimed the "hacking" of the pouches did not produce the same quality of juice. saying the machine was calibrated to deal with different ingredients differently.

But Juicero has now given customers the chance to return the machine and get their money back, including those who bought it at its launch price of $699.

It's because the vast majority of online payment processors are really drat squeamish when it comes to adult content, for some stupid reason. And if you're not big enough to tell them to go gently caress themselves (like Amazon is) then it's easier to just "not allow" the stuff, but only take action when it's explicitly pointed out to you.

Are you sure about that? I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that porn websites were among the first to develop secure credit card payments and subscriptions.

Also, I just noticed that Kickstarter doesn't seem to display the backers any more. You used to be able to look at the names of everyone who backed, and you could investigate backer fraud more easily--some campaigns got canned when suspicious users looked into backers' histories and found extensive histories of backing failed or destined-to-fail campaigns. Now it just tells you what are the top cities and countries of the backers and how many were new backers and how many are returning. Even for old campaigns--Night in the Woods says 840 new backers and 6532 returning backers. This Spyfinder has 50, and 14 are new. There are no positive comments from backers, and the amount raised is just over the goal. While there are certainly real gadget crazies on KS who probably backed this, I wouldn't be surprised if most of the backers are fake.

I didn’t know that - a really useful indicator of whether a campaign is legit quietly removed, hmm.
