I consider AliExpress no more or less safe than most other sites. The real challenge is in wading through the millions of seemingly identical items posted by identical sellers with just slightly different product descriptions or some silly inconsequential characteristic, like the colour of the PCB.

As for the quality... Yeah, you often get what you pay for. If I'm ordering a random electronic part I can't find elsewhere, I'll often order 2x the quantity I need, just to account for the :airquote:quality control.:airquote:

It does, but its really depends on the person whether you find it worthwhile to DIY that particular thing. I happily bought an Armiga, an ARM-based Amiga emulator even though I probably could've made a Pi-based one myself. I would've hated every minute of making one as I can't stand coding, so I'll gladly outsource that hell to someone. The people behind this thing could absolutely disappear overnight, but so far they've updated the firmware and added AGA support.

Plus, the case is wonderful:

Makes sense, I guess. It's antimicrobial brass. It can be used to press buttons or hook open certain doors. And if you later decide carrying around a brass coat hook is dumb, you can just put it on the wall and use it to hang your coat.
