Kharmakazy posted:Sometimes it's a good idea to tower throw accross a map and sacrifice a couple of guys just to take out a particularly annoying block. A picks up B, C picks up A+B, C throws A+B, A throws B, B kills geo block. Yeah, especially towards the end of the game there were some, "This is bullshit. REALLY? Enemy Turbo 3x, larger magic casting range, and no color change?" but if you used a couple tosses you could figure out a way to knock most of those bonuses off. I made it through D4 without repeating stages, and only diving the item world to level 10 three times (1 for the mandatory story excursion, 2 times in the best swords I could find when I hit some special bullshit). It's a good idea to use your money to upgrade weapons from the shops, pass "more expensive items" as much as you can. Disgaea 4 Episode 6 Spoilers - Axel Infection Episode Edit: My favorite bullshit fight was one of the later levels of the Axel Disease episode, when there were like 4 base panels that each spawned a copy of Axel every round. I came a little close to beating it the first time, then saw the pots up on the ledge and thought "Oh, I must be supposed to block the panels with those so they can't keep respawning." Nope. Only thing that blocks them in is surrounding them with bodies so they can't move. But I didn't have enough high level bodies to even do this for the two easy ones. On my third try I realized I had to be as efficient as possible with my strongest dude's AoE attacks, and did lots of throwing so that I could use Valvatorez's black hole to kill 4 of them each round. I can't speak Japanese, but the announcement for the date of an announcement wouldn't make for a very good April fool's joke, would it? I just want Asagi to finally have her game.

No, it wouldn't, but this is NIS and Asagi, so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

"This summer, 'Makai Wars ____' decision!!"(?) (The decision is that this game will never exist) Although April 1st would be a pretty hilarious time to announce it for reals... Maybe something will happen Friday

Honestly, them announcing it for real would be pretty funny. And I feel like her gag kind of peaked with the Disgaea 4 sprite thing.

Just came to post it. While yeah I'd be into a Asagi game; there's no way in hell they'd ruin one of their longest running jokes whether people like it or not.

Of course that could just be my own bias showing. 'put up or shut up' as it were.

I tried asking in the Q&A thread to no avail, so: I'd like to beat my copy of Disgaea 3. Is there anything in specific I need to know besides "grindy grindy fight fight"?

If you mean the main story then just play through and grind a little if you're having a ton of trouble somewhere. If you mean beat the Land of Carnage you should probably just pull up a full FAQ and follow the shitload of steps involved because to hell if I remember half of them anymore.

Well, I guess I mean general tips and tricks, like what monster classes happen to be good for something, is there a thing I should avoid doing by all means, that sort of thing. The entry for D3 on BeforeIPlay is just really, really bare.

The entry for D3 on BeforeIPlay is just really, really bare. In Disgaea 3 (I'm assuming you're referring to the PS3 version here), when it comes to monster classes you should look at their Evilities and what they magichange into, because Disgaea is all about the human classes. The monsters exist almost exclusively to support the humans. Disgaea 4 changed that up a bit (by introducing Desco and Monster Fusion, both of which made monsters much better), but in 3 it's still primarily the case.

Pick things that look cool and use them, they'll probably be fine. Magichanging isn't as useful as it sounds but that's about the only trap I can think of. If I'm not mistaken D3 was around when they made spears less awful, but that might be D4. Really, the main story isn't hard. Just put weapons on your dudes and go punch other dudes. If it's not working out, go run around in the Item World, get buffer, and smash your leveled up item over the boss' face. Oh, and don't throw people you magichange Prinnies onto because they blow up just like Prinnies. I don't know how many times I blew my Thief up when I started playing due to this.

I'm not a huge fan of having to buy skills and level them up with mana... I mean.. maybe if I could buy skills I shouldn't know normally or something...

The stages and enemy placements, platforms etc seemed to lose the very controlled placement and precision that the original had. The humour fell a bit flat (haha, get it, flat, just like 90% of NISA's jokes around that time) too, but that may have gotten better as the game went on. Also I loved the music in the first game (Tower of Ice and First Impression especially) so much that I got all the drat records and did a soundtrack rip of it (hell if you see it around and all the tracks are about 3 minutes long, that was me), but I don't remember anything at all about Prinny 2's music.

Just that fists, by virtue of enabling blink-tanking and having Big Bang, are better. Guns will probably stop keeping up when I cover everything in specialists, since there isn't a Hit/Speed one. E: Might as well ask since I have a post: do dual specialists like Sprinters boosts stats when leveling equipment, or is it just singular ones like Gladiator or Coach? E2: Never mind, I looked up a guide and since it specifies single-stat specialists for leveling I can pretty safely assume that's the case. Just to make sure I'm not incorrect regarding Item World: killing specialists makes them available to move from item to item, and there's no reason to fully clear any floor if it doesn't have a boss, right?

Both of these are essentially correct. Subduing specialists will also double their stat boosts, and there's no need to kill enemies unless it's a boss or you want a certain item from the bonus list.

Lizard Wizard posted:"certain item"? All I know is the bonus list yields mad swag. All you need to get the bonus items in IWs is to chain the geo blocks when you break them. You can also do the whole "everyone hits a monster one after the other and the last person does a move to kill it" thing which also works really well but usually the geoblock stuff is just easier unless you have things like reverse or invincible to deal with. Honestly you can almost always ignore bonus items. Exceptions occur but if you have a thief you can always just try stealing the stuff too. Once you're in the post game your thief will basically end up with a 99% success rate anyways regardless of the hand you use on an enemy.

It turns out plinking a dude with 0-damage gunshots increases the bonus gauge by a minute amount. Slumber works even better. I'm going to have one hell of a Trapezohedron. That I'll clone.

Masked heros are kinda broken in 3, right? Never get hit by anything, fly across the whole stage in a single turn, do extra 50% damage on enemies with a lower level (which is everyone) and an AOE attack that deals extra damage to monsters (which is more than 50% of all enemies), one hit kill everything. At the end of the main storyline I only let my single masked hero do all the work and he only died once.
