It honestly sounds like they are focusing entirely on the politics/cards stuff, rather then trying to balance everything. I've been paying close attention to this game, and this is the first I've really heard about the RTS features ( outside of "we will add them yes" ). Looking at them from the screenshots, they don't look very amazing either.

It really looks like the core of the game will be managing loyalties, and the combat will mainly be blobpushing. I'm cool with that as I mainly want to fiddle with all that politics stuff, but I can see this game getting railed on pretty hard at release for "bad" RTS features.

There's also the factor of a hardcore RPG dev team making an RTS.

Universal health care? So the thread title referencing troll abortions isn't entirely a joke? Huh. So it's not just military decisions you make, it's policy? That's pretty interesting.

Yeah, you have to choose many political choices, with each race having different views.

Elves are socialists/liberals
Undead are religious fundies. ( execute the gays, mandatory prayer )
Lizards are justice/law orientated I guess?
Dwarves are fygm libertarians/capitalists.
Imps are social anarchists.

If let's say your dragon is 100% pro gay marriage/legal abortions/recreational drug use/health care, the Elves/Lizards will love you, but the Undead/Dwarves will loathe you.

You also have to take into account Princesses/Queens. Each one has an arc that pits them against their country. The Undead one wants to live again, which is obviously a nono for the fundie Undead. So this opens an arc where you can side with your wife against her nation, or her nation against her for more/less popularity points.

So for example, you could be a hippie liberal communist dragon, marry the Undead Princess, then side with the Undead and tell her she should remain Undead. That should mean the Undead are not furious with you all the time for your "deviant ways".

Then there is also Generals, each has different viewpoints and may or may not agree with you. One for example is a staunch feminist, and believes women's rights need to happen now. If you agree with her, she'll be a strong general, if not, she'll work against you. Other generals might find the idea of a woman in charge to be demeaning, and may like you less.

And all this determines the army you'll be bringing into the RTS game, and the way the story goes.

Just beat it.

Decided prerelease I'd play to my own political views, which looked like the Elves upfront. So when the Princess choice came up, I married Camilla, since I still assumed the Lizards were Libertarians FYGM guys like we assumed earlier in the thread.

Instead ended up quickly maxxing out both her/Lizard approval, and somehow hitting both those storylines. Elves ended around 75% approval. Probably could have gotten that higher, but gently caress Oberon. Near the end, I just started siding with the Imp Councilor to gently caress with him.

About to start a new game on the Imperial Edition map. Do the skirmish campaign maps have all the choices as well, or is that campaign only? Think I'll probably go Imps/Dwarves next, and then maybe just pure Elves. I'm not sure I can max out the Undead without hating myself, judging by some of their later game choices.

What's the Undead faction decision? So far, the only one I actually agree with is the Lizard decision, in which they want to set up a Republic, and then a full-fledged democracy with an elected leader. It was hilarious approving the decree for my own dismissal.

To be fair, you set up a Democracy with no term limit, and you just finished saving the world/have popular support. You'll still rule for life, your children just won't be able to kill you to rule.

Nope, normal.

I don't see how you could do these battles without dragon abuse, half of the battles the enemy will start with like a billion mans and I'll have like...A Warlock, and such, which is why I need to abuse the dragon so much.

Are you not building troops on the world map?

Because the game is set up for you to be entering a battle hot, with dozens of troops already ready to go. If you only enter with a Warlock, you are probably initiating with just one piece.

So, what is the Undead/Dwarf faction arc?

Lizards is to establish a democracy, Elves are to make all your machines "naturally", Imps are to desecrate the Elf burial grounds to make a gigantic bomb. I was at pretty much 0% with both the Undead and Dwarves the entire game though, so no idea as to what they'd want.

The undead faction arc:

First decision is they want you to let the church sell indulgences to clear sins. Second is they want you to make it legal for the church to brand the hands of the faithful. Those who refuse are obviously filthy heretics that should be sent to your factories as cheap labour. The last one is they want the state to take the firstborn child of every family that refuses to be branded as a slave. Or as Yorrick puts it:

Whelp, I'm never getting that. :stare:

Yeah, if you are worried and want to grind for Chapter 2, the best way to do it would be to buy all the available research ( it carries over ), then build Merc Camps on every piece of land you own, and just wait for a couple months while you gather up cards.

You'll hit Act 2 with 40 Research, which you can use to grab the Juggernaut, then immediately turn around and build 2-3 of those. Send all transports back to your home island, separate up the Troopers, then send the transports along safe routes ( not directly, red will fight you on open sea ) to capture the nearby islands/the two sections of the main island with War Factories.

I then just built a hell of a lot of Armour/Devastators, and pushed North, while I allowed Green to cap the rest of the South. Once you get married, use the Dowry to buy another 2-3 Juggernauts.

At that point, send your Juggernauts down to where Green is situated, and pop all your best Merc cards ( Devestators/Armour/whatever ). Move your mercs to one of the side islands that has a cappable structure on it, build whatever it is, then just have them sit there. They should be able to kill any transports Green sends to kill it. With that done, move the Juggernauts down the side of the map to the Capital, and have them bombard it from a distance.

Once her base is dead, you get all the green lands, and can push in and kill Yellow. Once he's done, just grab everything on the map, lock Red into his island, and slowly finish upgrading everything prior to Act 3.

This is the only way I can think of to beat Act 2. They really really need to adjust the difficulty of Act 2.

I just tried the Harder version of Hard that they patched in. It is somehow, even Harder than Hard was the first time. You really must get Hunters, Armors, Shamans and Immunity ASAP, because the enemy will not hesitate to build Hunter Swarms and polymorph your units with cloaked Warlocks. The AI will also take the southwest island and re-take counties they lost. They are out for your blood.

Dragon Commander is back in the top 10 of Steam sales at #9.

Ugh gently caress, that quote.

Decided to google it, brought me to RPGCodex.

They of course, hate the game.

I loving hate RPGCodex. How can they hate everything as much as they do, then wear it as a badge of honor. According to them, Larian has betrayed RPG gamers everywhere by releasing DC, rather then a new isometric RPG. This is on top of them hating Larian for making Divinity 2, and Original Sin as not oldschool isometric games, and wishing them to be forced to shut down to "prove" their points.

T.G. Xarbala posted:

This is a shame, because it's the only game in the franchise to catch my interest, after years of seeing Divinity games pop up on Steam Summer Sales, Daily Deals, and so forth. What is it with people making more interesting settings for distant prequels than their bog-standard stereotypical medieval main stuff, anyway? Are people just afraid to make actual, technological progress in a chronological sequel for some reason?

You should get Divinity 2 at least. It has airships and the like, because by that point they've found the DC tech, and have re-purposed some of it. People still stab each other though, so no guns or crazy machines.

DD and D2 are two of the most smartly written RPGs I can think of, and I highly recommend them though. Even for "medieval fantasy setting" based games, they are well worth a play.
