Why do people who look at Touhou from outside always think it's about maids? Why is that the touchstone when the main characters are a witch and a priestess, and almost everyone else is some kind of fantasy creature? Surely Sakuya isn't that overwhelmingly popular.

shrine maiden main character -> maiden -> maid main character dumb but I wouldn't rule it out, then it spirals from there with Sakuya thrown in hte mix from when EOSD ruled the roost.

Sakuya is in a LOT of memes and fangames, most notably that castlevania one. As far as general forward facing touhou characters, she's very prominent to people unfamiliar with the franchise.

Y'all like charts? I love charts. Rules: Characters who are based on a kind of thing, from general purpose folklore, do not count and aren't included. "Definitively Is" characters are characters who encompass everything from the person or story, and expand upon in. "Ambiguously Is" characters may be that, but it's not 100% clear. "Based on" characters do not encompass everything about that person or story, but expand upon a more limited take anyway with the character itself. "Conflations" are just when multiple people or stories are combined into one character. "Related to" are related to but aren't those people or themselves the subjects of those stories.

It releases on Sept. 27th and Amazon.jp is very good about making sure you get stuff on release day (in Japan) so they should be a decent choice.

 Cleared it on my first try, though it was seriously close. Was kinda sweating bullets - that last attack had me bomb spamming like crazy. To anyway that cares likes touhou for the shmups,  I strongly encourage you to play this game!
