There have been cases where they've moved a manga from Shonen Jump to a different magazine that's owned by the same publisher, but I don't think there's any examples of a Jump manga going to a different publisher.

Wasn't Attack on Titan going to originally be published on Weekly Shonen Jump (or Jump SQ, which I guess it's the monthly one and would have fit way better)? Then the writer ended up going to a rival company after they told him to piss off or something and he ended up getting published and--

Holy gently caress. I'm betting that whoever rejected the AoT script musta been fired after that. :v:

Tsuitsui-sensei knows exactly what he's doing, but I appreciate him for it. When the scenario's a cliche he puts a twist on it or just tunes it to the max. And when it's more original, it's either super funny or really heartwarming.

I won't begrudge anyone who's uncomfortable with fanservice if they don't care for it, but it's rapidly become one of my weekly favorites.
It's fine and, for the most part, it's been consistent with the chuckle-worthy feels. Also, does anyone know if Tsuitsui worked as assistant to Komi during Nisekoi or something? The art feels distinctly similar.

Nothing even comes close to Nen. A detailed, deep system with rules, basic techniques and various applications, and full of enough potential and flexibility to make endless interesting fights.

While HxH's story hasn't suffered at all for it, it's a bit disappointing that a lot of newer abilities have been "Specialist" abilities that break the rules or just do whatever he wants them to do because the user is special or a genius rather than being an ability in a category that was cultivated for a specific purpose. But it's still a great system.
And, what I feel it's most important of all, having a great application of nen is not an immediate "Screw you buddy, I win", because not every nen ability is suited for combat. At the end of the day, if you falter, your rear end is grass to the enemy's lawnmower.

He's a hero with a certain in-story rep and to say that he's a polarizing figure within that manga /the manga's fandom would be putting it mildly, and the reason ConanThe3rd brought him up is due to the fact that he's also the father of one of the main characters in MHA.

He's on full duties for Edens Zero and storyboarding Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. Even with a full section or squad of assistants, one manga series can warp your goddamn sleeping schedule to oblivion, I can only sorta imagine what kind of (or lack of) sleeping schedule Mashima is currently powering through. I'm a relapsed Fairy Tail fan, but my hat's off to the guy.

Yeah, the editor probably just goes to his house/apartment and just picks the chapter because, well: You kinda know what to expect from the guy with two hit manga in as many decades of his career.

In a sorta-related question: Has Miki Yoshikawa done anything lately after Yamada-kun ended?

Nope, too manly.
OG Fist of the North Star was originally published on Weekly Shounen Jump, so at least on that statistic I think it counts. Also, that same series had JoJo for close to 20 years, so I do believe the shounen demographic tag does allow for some wiggle room wrt unabashed violencing and other topics.

I love Yu Yu Hakusho. It's one of my fave old-school classics and I think that Togashi started showing some incredible promise even as early as the Spirit Detective Saga, even if it wasn't as consistent. The Dark Tournament Arc is straight up great and, while not at the same level, the Chapter Black Arc is also pretty good and it confirms that Togashi wasn't just a one-trick pony. That said, Hunter x Hunter is an entirely different beast which I like way more because of how Togashi has been good about keeping things fairly different and even willing to aim at your gut with no mercy.

Brought To You By posted:

It's a demographic name, not a genre. Whatever magazine the series ran in (or the target age group of the publisher) is what defines that particular tag. Plus Shonen aren't a stranger to violence, Kinnikuman back in the day had people getting ripped in half, YYH and HxH are both pretty brutal and graphic, but other 80s and 90s manga were as well. JoJos ran in a shonen magazine I think up until Stone Ocean, meaning all the body horror Araki loves was also shonen. Likewise, series like K-on are seinen.

I want to recommend you jump in again, take your time on a re-read, and then start following the current arc. But the threat of these 8 month hiatuses is a pretty strong deterrent. It's worth following along if you want my 2 cents. The current arc is amazing.
Funnily enough, all those series ran in the aforementioned Weekly Shounen Jump, so indeed, just because it's in that demographic, doesn't mean it ain't gonna get bloody.

Chapter Black is a fun arc because it's a big chaotic mess directly after this orderly, structured tournament. I don't know if this was ever confirmed in an interview or anything but the human psychics' powers feel like Togashi testing out ideas he would later refine into Nen abilities, and that honestly makes it retroactively better to me.
:omarcomin:

One of the few youtubers that I follow, Super Eyepatch Wolf, mentioned that it was less about "clean-cut" brawls/fights and more about how it had the makings of a gang/urban warfare of sorts, and I tend to agree since (spoilers for anyone who hasn't read the manga/seen the anime) , while in the Dark Tournament, Yuusuke got strong enough that he could go toe-to-toe against the Younger Toguro, in the Chapter Black he almost gets unceremoniously killed by Sniper Hagiri, and only gets saved by Hiei straight up crippling Hagiri. And unless you had previously watched it, it felt like Togashi was pulling the rug from under you.

Nisekoi had fantastic reaction faces. Like, say what you want about the story (and there's plenty to pick apart, tbqh), but the drat reaction faces Komi drew were off the hook. Like, in my heart, pound for pound, my favorite shounen romcom shenanigans manga is still My Monster Secret (which also had some fantastic reaction faces), but Nisekoi was like Komi knows how to get that hard belly laugh out of you through those faces.

I guess I got on Masuda's Manga Battle Tower School dumb ride in part due to the fact that I enjoyed and sincerely consider My Monster Secret one of the funniest mangas from the past decade. Also because while How to Make an Invisible Man and Sakura Discord were also short-lived, it showed that Masuda does have it in him to mix it up, even if dumb and endearing characters are his powerhouse and calling card.

Abusive Manga Dads are, fairly frequently, handled incredibly poorly, so I feel it's less that Conan (whom I vaguely remember posting about Nisekoi itvt or the Nisekoi one) is planting his feet down and covering his ears screaming ":byodood: LA LA LA LA, I CAN'T loving HEAR YOU!" and more on the fact that, y'know, abusive parents as shown on manga, especially WSJ, don't really have the best track record and either have a poorly handled redemption character arc or just straight up don't have one.

Hell, if I don't misremember, Endeavor, Azami (Erina's dad in Shokugeki no Soma) and Marika's mom in Nisekoi all made their first appearances at around the same time. The arc surrounding Marika and her family, in particular, was so poorly paced, longer than needed and just plain god-awful enough that I basically stopped following Nisekoi weekly and just decided to check up on it monthly, despite my earlier mentions of its fantastic reaction faces. With Nisekoi it was even more annoying because parental figures had all been, while not without their faults or stupid tropey bs, fairly likeable.

Oh, no doubt about it. Jitsu wa Watashi wa is fantastic and one of my favorite recent manga period. I just like that part that Asahi never wavers wrt the one girl he likes: He likes the cute, dumb vampire (dumbire? dumpire?) girl and so he's all in on Youko, who's an incredibly endearing character herself. Plus, the fact that everyone has stuff going on besides "Imma score" is what makes the series what it is. :3:
