If you think 4E isn't complex I don't know what to say. Playing similar games for years is harmful to your sense of perspective. My ideal version would steal a lot from Gamma World 7E, with an eye towards being as simple to pick up as possible without being bland.quote:D&D and Pathfinder is like the National League and the American League. quote:I have just discovered that the non-core rules for D&D 4e are so poorly thought out, you can actually make a Vampire Vampire Vampire. quote:“What do I have to roll to rape the dead corpse of the Goblin I just killed.”

Open Letter To Shannon Appelcline and Christopher Allen At Skotos Although you own RPGnet, you may not be aware many of the people you've chosen to moderate your forum there recently spent a 500-post thread arguing that Monte Cook, Shanna Germain and Kieran Yanner's game Numenera promotes sexism because it has a succubus in it. Well, a space succubus. (And kicking out people for disagreeing with them. It's kind of a normal day on RPGnet like that.) Meanwhile, RPGnet lets ads like this run on the front page: If RPGnet is serious about fighting sexism in gaming you maybe might want to do something about that. And if RPGnet is serious about attracting a better quality of advertiser you maybe might want to do something about your moderators. Sincerely, The D&D With Porn Stars crew P.S. Chris A. I used to play Hordes, and I could never understand the players that felt so strongly about their chosen faction that they had to defend their moral rightness. One of my best friend would sincerely stand-up for Cryx, a blatantly evil faction of necromancers ruled by a draconic personification of corruption. From what I remember of the setting's history, the entire continent was once taken over and enslaved by invaders from across the ocean. After a long and costly revolution the native people's combined effort defeated the invaders, and a treaty was made to redraw the old kingdoms' borders. Khador holds a grudge because of lands that were once theirs that they lost due to the treaty, regardless of any territories they gained because of it. quote:[A post about how Zone of Truth and the Insight skill are complementary.] Or instead of fussing with Insight, you could just use torture. Jab the prisoner with hot pokers until they quit resisting the spell and give verifiable answers (presuming you're still allowed to voluntarily fail saving throws). Thanks to magic, you'll know when they're making up information they think you want to hear, and they'll ultimately be more cooperative when they realize the genuine truth makes the hurting stop, so it makes torture heaps more useful than it is in the real world. No annoying skill checks necessary.

Which is why accurately drawn boob armor creates the 'bikini' effect: the plates cannot be made any larger while still retaining their structural integrity. A breastplate that covers much more than a woman's areolas would literally disintegrate in real life. It's not sexism - it's realism.

The whole LfQW debate appears all over the D&D Internet space with views naturally varying by board prejudices. If we look at D&D across the spectrum of editions even in 1st edition there came a point where the wizard was probably flat out the most powerful character. Over time, however, many of the checks and balances on wizard power have eroded so that wizards (and indeed other spell castes such as Druids) become more powerful more quickly. Then came 4E which fixed LFQF, no question. The thing is, however, if LFQW was always part of the game, and the game was immensely popular for the duration of that run, was LFQR such a problem? I would argue that for many it wasn't so 4E fixed something that didnt need fixing.

quote:I hate the excuse 'but lovely cliches havenwomen fighters!' First of allx Valaria ( Conan) was not that strong, she was easily overpowered by fit men. She was a skilled and experienced fighter, that's all. Secondly, buff women aren't going to look like Red Sonja, they're going to be built like men.if you want to play Ursa the She-Bear I'll let you have a 14 Str, good luck finding a boyfriend though. I also hate chainmaille bikinis and breast-conforming plate armor. Oh, and how does Tits McStackin use a bow with those flotation devices? Women not only get a STR penalty, they get a SIZ penalty; and if we're playing on Earth different ethnic groups will also have SIZ modifiers. Asians are not as big as Norsemen, generally speaking, and that's a disadvantage in combat. Deal with it. Dont loving fight all the time and it won't be a big deal, I hate modern roleplayers wih their lovely movie and video game expectations. Equality is for slaves. quote:I'd rather get #cancer than get #married. Part of this is the 'Poe Effect', and generally only the dominant cult (Humanism in this case) is allowed to be vehement, whe. someone expresses strong ideological or personal values contrary to the official religion they are presumed to be unserious out of hand. However, I don't think this is so much a mistake as a passive-agressive defense mechanism so they don't have to justify their poorly reasoned beliefs. And most persons have very poorly reasoned beliefs, even if they are correct.

Valued Readers, Since it was founded in 1689, The Dongion has done its best to bring you only the finest in gossip about things that aren't important. Recently it has come to The Dongion's attention that the people The Dongion satirizes do not like The Dongion. This shocking and unfortunate news comes at a time where the people The Dongion does not like are behaving more poorly than they ever have before. In the interest of the greater good, of restoring sanity to the RPG industry, of not giving these many losers more reasons to cry "victim" than they had before, and encouraging these folk to think about people who aren't themselves once in a while, The Dongion will be closing its doors and shutting off its presses. Know though that should the douchebaggishness repeat or return, The Dongion may be forced to rise again, like an ink phoenix from the ashes. Excelsior, -E. Gary Zweibel Editor and Proprietor, The Dongion quote:A shame. quote:I agree... These social justice warriors are going to take this as a victory and keep pushing for it. They are going to be encourage to be even more dumb.
