I think someone already started a review of Paranoia? After checking, yep, looks like GorfZaplen's on it, though his last review post was in June, so...

You know, I've actually been missing Fields. After all, it feels really nice to know that, no matter how far you fall, you'll still be less of a sleaze than him.

Lemon Curdistan posted:While I'm enjoying your coverage of :fields:, could we perhaps not do this? There are non-racist ways of saying "I feel cheated" or "what a let-down." Funnily enough, this is the first time that I've noticed that that term references the Romani people. Huh. I don't think he/she/it/they were meaning to be racist there.

So, I've found a pair of RPGs that look like they would be good to review: - 44: A Game of Automatic Fear is a 37-page horror RPG where the players are all (initially) fighting against a conspiracy that replaces people with robots. It is, by default, set in the 50s. It is actually really good at setting the mood. - Argh!: I haven't had a chance to give the game a detailed read-through yet, but it promises everything that you need to run "the supernatural thriller of your dreams... or nightmares!" Also, the art is done in Poser, and the book has among other things, an example character that literally gained the ability to use magic as part of researching for an RPG that he was writing. And a vampire biker gang is part of the backstory of one of the other example characters (the 'Crypts'). So, my question is... which should I cover? Young Freud posted:I'm fairly certain that they reprinted a version of those rules in the D6 Adventure, WEG's last gasp at the Open Gaming License market, so it's likely those rules survived not only the end of the line that spawned them but the company itself, since the OpenD6 are now widely available. Yep, they did. You can find 'em in the D6 Fantasy and D6 Adventure pdfs.

Balefire is pretty much my favorite thing in those books. Because it is the most logical "destruction" spell to exist in a world as metaphysically connected as the WoT series. The closest equivalent that I've ever seen is a charm in Exalted called "Avoidance Kata", which lets you dodge any attack you can pretty much imagine... by not having been there in the first place. It works by essentially teleporting you to anywhere you could have reached if you had taken a different decision 10 minutes ago, and then the world rejiggering itself so that you you actually took that decision. It is absolutely hilarious, and has the upside of enabling the question: If you smack someone with Balefire, and you then activate Avoidance Kata, what happens to the guy you erased?

petrol blue posted:STUFF Funnily enough, the katas might be the best idea in there; the general concept (i.e., get poo poo into your muscle memory) is used in pretty much every physical performance (dance, martial arts, theatre, etc, etc). Now let's see how pretentious this guy is going to make muscle memory sound. And, by the way, I think that kung-fu names should be used more often... but naming limbs like that is just stupid.

So, um... Strike Legion. I just heard of it. Should I shell out 3 bucks and add it to the reviewing list, or does anyone have it? By the way, sorry I'm delaying on Argh! I have finals to do. To make up for it, if they are review-worthy, there are 3 other books by the same guy, using the same system. Namely: Kapow! Zap! and... Zounds!

If you pick your feats right, your spells are immune to Divination effects. And are naturally invisible. So you can make undetectable ninja clones of yourself. It helps if you look at 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons as "Fantasy Superheroes."

Wow... Only other time I've ever saw "cosplay your character" as a way to get XP was in Moe-Tan. And that, at least, was tongue in cheek (this is the game, after all, where everyone plays anthropomorphic personifications of random poo poo trying to capture the fandom of otaku on the internet).

Aw... What he left out is that if you roll a 2 on the Incident table, every single one of them requires you to get drunk due to loss of faith in self. Also, the entire Charisma table is sexy misunderstandings. I'm not even kidding. Unless the guy who translated the PDF added those in; I dunno.

I was in Covok's group, so I'm dropping in to concur that combat takes for-loving-ever. And, at least once, resulted in yours truly being incapable of doing anything for those 40+ minutes. And he isn't kidding when he says that it can't be used for non-pulp fantasy; flight for everybody is assumed by level 7-ish, iirc.
