There's a lot of good stuff coming out of Vancouver, BC right now. I'll limit my list to bands that I've seen live.

Anciients - melodic, progressive metal. Best band in the city right now.
Baptists - noisy, metallic hardcore. Unbelievable drumming.
Black Wizard - stoner rock. Much better than the name might suggest.
Haggatha - crushing doom metal.
Hillfolk - "progressive adventure rock."
Hoopsnake - sludge doom. Weed.
Johnny De Courcy And The Death Rangers - grungy pop-rock, very catchy.
The Rock Band Called Time - rock and goddamn roll.
Three Wolf Moon - psychedelic rock with folk and prog influences.
Weirding - aggressive sludge.
Wiser Fool - swingin' stoner rock.
