I followed the Breakout thread and really enjoyed it, and i've been curious about Marvel Heroic since hearing about it on this board all the time. Could I apply to get in as Dust? I always thought she was a cool character with a lot of potential. Do you have a datafile for her around?

Alright! I'm really excited to try out this system! I like the look of that datafile, i'd been wondering what specialties Dust could have but that beefy powerset makes up for it. I'm wondering what the Voice in the Wind distinction is supposed to suggest though. I'm really not 100% sure which side I want to be on with Dust, I know the X-men were neutral but presumably their Civil War sourcebook has suggestions for joining one side or the other. At any rate I like the idea that she's really not sure which one is the right thing to do, so i'll replace one of my milestones with Test Your Allegiance. Not sure which, Flesh From Bone seems especially relevant to the events sparking the Act but Shy is what I was thinking for how to play her and would relate to being unsure if she can really trust the people she's fighting alongside.

Maybe it's just because i've had to be awake pretty much continuously from the time I first posted in this thread to now, but we are zooming. I'm okay with that! I think i'll leave Dust's milestones as the default for this Act by the way, if I can change them later. Did we ever decide on whether there's going to be an IRC channel? Okay, now that i've brushed up on my recent New X-Men history (and assuming the continuity is about the same), I think i've got motives for Dust figured out. So after House of M/Decimation, many of the newly depowered X-students were sent home only to be killed by William Stryker on the way (because finally there are few enough mutants to make a full frontal assault! yay!), leading to Dust and the other hastily assembled mutants going out for a revenge mission, during which her friend Icarus was revealed as a traitor before being killed. Between the Decimation and the reinvigorated anti-mutant hate crimes and Icarus dying, she decided she needed to get the hell away from the X-men and the Institute for a while and into a different environment. She'd been considering returning to Afghanistan but couldn't bring herself to leave the situation in the US behind, felt caught between an increasing number of rocks and extremely hard places, and when she heard about Broxton she decided to track down Beast because he's a trusted mutant adult who could help her figure stuff out or at least provide a relatively safe space for a while. Mystique being there will be interesting because Dust has some really mixed feelings about mutant persecution and uncaring authorities right now, and she'll be looking for a role model. She definitively turned down Xorn before when he tried to make her choose mutant supremacy over her faith, but in the current circumstances she might at least be persuaded to go anti-registration.

From what i've gleaned from reading up on the tangled, incestuous mess of X-men continuity for this game, Mystique was technically a member of the X-men during Civil War! And in the 80s, she led a proto-Thunderbolts group called Freedom Force rounding up unregistered heroes for the government! And a representative quote from Wikipedia: X-men.txt posted:Wolverine, having returned from hell and retrieved his possessed body from a demonic force, targets Mystique after finding out she was responsible for sending his soul there at the behest of The Red Right Hand Comics!

Sometimes I think the only way Dust is going to fit the tone of this game is if I start intepreting 'shy and reserved' as 'complete goon socially'. My amateur hour essays on tokenism and stereotyping in comics will just have to find another home~quote:Also congrats to Defiance on upgrading your avatar to a more appropriate form. I was reading the BSS Funny Panels thread today and ended up seeing the patient zero moment when everyone got JJJ avatars, it was like a historical artifact.

I'm fully reassured! I knew that was gonna be Arabian Knight before I even checked the link, haha. He reminds me of that season of Superfriends where they made a pretty hamfisted effort to add superheroes representing other cultures. I think his very, very Israeli opposite number is statted up in the MHR X-men book, actually. I guess their heart was in the right place? I'm not sure if it's still running, but recently there was an Islam-themed superhero comic called The 99 which was pretty cool from what I remember. I haven't seen enough to pass judgment but I just liked seeing supers in another cultural milieu. Also, Hercules owns owns owns and is making me want to play Namor and devour scenery.

I assumed Iron Man was the default leader in lieu of Thor or Cap, but I didn't want to nominate a Watcher character! And since most of the group is in a room together for the first time, we (I?) don't really know what the team dynamic will end up being (for as long as we have one).
