Akari Sakuramori FP: 2

"Truly an honor," Akari executes the perfect bow for the situation - hands clasped in the lap, back straight, bending at the waist at a 50° angle to denote slightly more respect than Francine due to his rank and the unique nature of his job, held for exactly 2.5 seconds. The Empire's ten-hour etiquette drills are paying off.

"But enough small talk. Maybe the two of you would care to join me? I came seeking somewhere to train my skills... behold!"

Akari's hands are in the secret, possibly extradimensional pockets of her magical girl clothes. They're designed to contain the usual things the Empire gives to its magical girls - magical girl wands, a few technological gizmos, suicide pills and Empire propaganda, mostly. Akari has discarded most of it for not being the true tools of a warrior, leaving plenty of room for...

"Video games!" Akari strikes a dangerous pose, arms crossed and games held between her fingers like knives. In a just world she'd have a halo of fire and wind blowing her hair up dramatically right now. "Games of combat and competition, each one more complex than the last! The perfect way for young warriors like us to hone their reflexes and strengthen their bonds! Simply name your challenge and I will accept it!"

"Or if you want to watch a vid show or something I guess that's cool."

Wolfe frowned, considering what he had found when he had investigated the machines that the Imperial forces had been piloting. "But your suits use direct neural feedback technology. How widespread is the use of this technology? Hacking it would render the pilots vulnerable to psi-attacks."

Admittedly hacking it would be difficult, but not impossible to do for a technologically advanced civilisation.

"Pilot? This ship as an AI, why would it need a human helming it?" Francine asks with an inquisitive tone. Yes, this man looks highly suspicious. If he's a spy, then it's up to her to apprehend him, with force if necessary! Although the stupid oriental girl keeps interrupting her.

A terrifying thought dawns on Francine as the reason Akari is here, though. Good Jesus, is she going to watch her depraved pornography on this room? Thankfully it's not the case as she only shows silly video games. Pah, the only ones she used back on her training were military simulators for all kinds of combat.

"Childish. Yeah." Gou sits and idly grabs a controller. "But there's not much else for me. You're right, the ship is NINA's purview, but the higher-ups were worried about what would happen if she was subverted or went rogue. My job is to seize the helm if such an event occurs. He sighed and considered the information presented to him.

Despite what the captain thought, words could not carry infection in the way he described. Words were triggers, things that made parts of the brain that had been prior conditioned work in a specific way. This meant that there must be some kind of indoctrination occurring at some point. A further check of the imperial mechs was in order, but he was currently beginning to feel fatigued and wanted to rest before he did so. "Well...keep up the good work here doc." Wolfe says with a straight and cheerful voice, which ran slightly contrary to the fact the doctor had already goofed and allowed quarantines to be broken...if they had ever been set up in the first place.

Assuming no one stopped him immediately Wolfe would make his way to the hydroponics. Plants were simple, they didn't think in the way people did. They responded to stimuli in the environment, but were otherwise straight forward and most importantly quiet. The constant buzz and background noise died down when he was alone with his plants. That he could be productive was an added bonus to the calming atmosphere.

The pilot frowned for a moment in thought, giving a moment of consideration before answering. It was both to appear not to brash or know it all, and also to save a bit of face should he answer incorrectly or incompletely. "Well I know that the ship can operate in a sealed environment, which means that there needs to be air filtration to cycle breathable air. Although some of the pollinating plans I would expect would be kept isolated from the circulation if that is so, to prevent allergen issues? Aside from that plants can also be used as a source of food. While algae might be able to suffice for that and the respiration, it is kind of tasteless which is bad for morale. Some plants can also be used to create basic medicine in emergencies...beyond those however I'm unsure. Did I miss something, or maybe I'm on the wrong track?" The pictures shows a bustling port town, perhaps more bustling than usual in preparation for the royal visit. People teem around the streets, visible as dots amongst brightly lit buildings."

Gou flips a hand to the right. "This is Xiamen today."

Perhaps the Patriots were steeled for devastation. That was something understandable, a consequence of war.

What is shown on screen... is empty.

The buildings are dark. There are no people in the streets. There's no people at all, as far as can be told. Cars lie abandoned in the road. Visible, just barely, is the Princess' convoy, as abandoned as the rest.

Gou looks at you, eyes grave. "That's why I'm saying it's bad. It's not that we can see anything terrible, because that would be almost reassuring. We don't have a clue what happened there. We don't have a clue what you'll have to face. We have no loving clue at ALL!"

She brushes some dirt off Wolfe's shirt in an absentminded way, and faces away from him. "I'm here because we're confronting an unknown. Pilots are the least of what the IG has employed and gathered, Mr. Arhawke. There are a million people willing to just get themselves killed." A snip. A bud. He was appreciative of the fact that if she had something specific set up, then it would be best not to tamper with it. On the other hand Wolfe had this stuff, or at least some of the plants, brought over for his personal use. "Well Miss Malar, I don't wish to get in your way but I hope you will understand when I say that I will still come here to relax from time to time. However perhaps we could come to an arrangement? I would certainly be prepared to leave most of these plants to your professional care...but perhaps we could organise for a few of them that I could take care of myself? Wolfe felt a little sympathetic to the woman, fear never got easier to deal with...you just grew used to it. He thought about the crew of NINA, another possible point of weakness. Those leading the Ideal Guardians seemed to have things in hand enough that Wolfe trusted them to be prepared for them to crack under pressure, but it would do to remind the other pilots at least that they had civilians on board. Francine would understand, as would Ten. As for Hunter and Akari...well they were civilians themselves. He sighed inwardly and checked the chronometer. It wasn't late by any estimates, but they couldn't rely on the enemy to only attack during daylight hours so he decided to take botanist's (unneeded) advice for the time being.

His dream was confused and chaotic. Wolfe's mind was more structured because of his psychic powers but tonight was different. He was more aware of what was happening, but he was more disturbed by the events in the englishman's mind than he would admit to others. Fears and doubts he had at least managed to quash, if not deal with, years ago had begun to rise ago. Like a kind of home movie he watched memories from his life, starting from childhood to adulthood. Revelations of how he was different, questions asked about who his parents really were, grappling with trying to decide if he would find out the answers from his parents minds or not...and eventually deciding to trust them and to respect their privacy.

He struggled to try and gain some clarity and distance from it, but his subconscious was running on pure emotion and his logical faculties were struggling to establish dominance and order over his own mind. When dreaming the deeper and older parts of the brain, those dealing with emotion and instinct tended to remain active while those involved with logic and conceptual reasoning were diminished.

Akari's had been a huge tiger named Toratora; tonight, he was squeezed into the passenger seat and wearing a policeman's jacket and hat like some lame cartoon character.

"Limits are made to be broken, Toratora!" Akari shouts. The streets are emptier than they should be, but Akari doesn't notice. She's too busy speeding. There's a construction site up ahead. The criminals knock over a stack of drums as they speed past, forcing her towards a ramp-shaped pile of dirt...

"But we'll make the wrong impression with today's youth," Toratora persisted.

"No we won't!" Akari reached for the gear stick and pushed it into "YES". "We're teaching them... ABOUT JUSTICE!!"

She aims for the ramp, and...
