The 4th spell slot thing is so good. You can't really take too much of an advantage of it in SF1 without spoiling the item rewards, but you can use the knowledge you gain in SF1 to decide what weapons your priests/mages should specialize in SF2/SF3 to take full advantage to completely cripple an already easy game.

I never used the aux weapons except in ruins as well. It's not really so much a question of what's better than what, but that it does take awhile to get weapon levels unless you egress grind, so I would just stick with the same weapon types from the start.

If I recall correctly, Irene starts off unimpressive but becomes an A+ never-ever-leave-the-force character with levels. I really liked her. Her animations were cool too, that roundhouse.

Gimmicky levels like this (with the dual areas) were part of why I liked this game too.
This is pretty much every character in SF3. The character balance is much better in SF3.

Fliers in general are so good for a lot of the maps that it's well worth feeding them stat up items.

There's actually a really good Shining in the Darkness sequel for Saturn as well.

vvv Yeah, and yeah I meant in gameplay.
