I think Adam is great in the right situation. Allison is a bad fit though, and Bryan is just not funny. I really hope the Adam & Drew show picks up and they start producing more of them. They just need a better call screener.

They need a better Adam screener. Drew isn't willing to do it in this context, evidently.

The most recent Chris Hardwick episode was not a repeat, and actually I think the show is starting to improve a little. I think Adam is starting to listen to everyone; trying EMDR, talking about working on his anger, being a little less harsh with Ray on Ace on the House... and I feel like if he gets that under control, his comedy is going to be a lot less bitter and repetitive.

It's better than no progress, at least. Sure, he maybe only did the one-on-one episodes because of the circumstances surrounding his crowdsourcing campaign, but hey -- we actually got some one-on-one episodes!

I skipped it because the description starts with, "Adam and Drew open the show discussing instant gratification and how the ability to get anything you want these days has been a negative for kids." Gee, what a novel concept!

I rely heavily on this thread to tell me which episodes were good. I'd probably have skipped the Joy Koy episodes, which would have been a big mistake!

I listened expecting militant atheism and it really wasn't there. Vocal atheism, yes. Militant atheism, no.

I guess I meant that only in the context that he is unabashed, particularly in contrast to recent Carolla -- and even more than old Carolla, I think. He, too, has had good experiences with Christians in his life. That doesn't mean he's not going to tell every one of them that there's no God and that they sound really stupid.

I suppose militant is not the right word, so how about atheist proselytism?

I always defend Adam when people call him sexist, racist etc. but I can't defend the fact that he really really hates poor people. This thing where he thinks all poor people are lazy and stupid comes from his black and white, concrete thinking based solely on his experiences. His parents were poor and lazy, therefore all poor people are lazy. Adam wasn't bullied in school, therefore bullying doesn't exist. He has never known a person with peanut allergies, therefore nobody has peanut allergies. He also still hasn't realized that things like passionfruit iced tea, weird club sandwiches and fingerprinting coaches are primarily LA things and the rest of the world isn't like that, but LA is where he lives and therefore its the entire planet. I think Adam is a pretty smart person generally but that's the most basic, primitive mindset you can have.

I'm largely with you, but Adam would be the first to admit that LA is completely hosed up compared to the rest of the country, and always talks about how much better all other cities are whenever he travels. He talks about it because that's where he lives, but I'm sure if you called him on it, he'd be excited to tell you that LA is a pile of poo poo.

Gotta get it on, MANDATE to get it on. Every time he says it, I realize just how dumb Adam really is, because when he originally started saying that, it was to mock radio personalities who would say such stupid things. It was ironic. Now it's not. Now it's a rote phrase he regurgitates every show. It's just so loving sad.

Actually, that's from his making fun of songs from the 70s; it's just a rehashed bit that has become a trademark phrase.

Yeah, I know. There are other reasons to unsubscribe from Dr. Drew's podcast. To be fair to me, I don't listen to the main Carolla podcast very often anymore either and the first boner pill ad definitely made me cut down even more. Now I only listen to the main podcast if you guys suggest an episode, or if it's a guest I know will make it tolerable.

Such a fall from grace. I probably should just stop listening to the network altogether and listen to repeats of Loveline instead.

It's the Penn's Sunday School & This Week With Larry Miller network as far as I'm concerned!

I'm a little late on this, but I rolled the dice on the latest Jo Koy episode and it was pretty good. There was a repeat of the brown sugar being moved out of the pantry bit that went on too long, but at least that hasn't been run as much into the ground. Jo got to be himself for the most part; it's worth checking out if you've started to skip those out of habit.

The William Shatner episode is the first I've listened to in a while, too. He hasn't really talked about it too much on Ace On The House, which is still a great show and I never miss an episode. He's replaced his commercials asking for money with a bit about how he has them on the ropes and has switched the revenue stream to the Amazon banner.

Yeah, I'd have a really tough time placing the date of that interview by the sound of his voice. He could definitely do VO work as movie-era Captain Kirk. Watching him on TV lately he seems very different, and has seemed a little dulled on shows like Craig Ferguson. But in this interview, he sounded very young.
