I managed to forget we had an episode tonight until a few hours ago. Now the minutes seem to crawl by... it's weird that a show will actually live up to my high expectations.

The Halloween special was pulled from this season's run, so there probably won't be another Orpheus/Triad centric episode. Hopefully they still show up, though.

St. Cloud was a little more flaccid this second time around, but Venture Brothers has always had some hit or miss characters. Hatred took me a while to fully warm up to, after all. At the very least, St. Cloud enables Billy and White to have some fun adventures.

The other problem with the episode is how predictably the "twist" played out. A lot of the main story kind of packed backbone. I wouldn't say it was a bad episode, certainly no State Dinner.

Nah, of course it's Billy and White.
You're going to be so mad at me when I bring up "The Invisible Hand of Fate".

Of course I don't think they even pay attention to these things, nor really should they. I thought the anticlimactic end of SPHINX was on par with the Orb in terms of deliberate nose-thumbing

As many times as I've seen "The Better Man", I only just noticed that The-Master-as-Dean is using what appears to be a Vacuum Boom-Vroom.

Probably Gorby. He was never popular with the hard-liners, especially early on, before he built up political capital with Reagan with the arms reduction talks and Perestroika/Glasnost. I can't remember if they gave a *year* for the Goodwill Games.
'86. The scene a the Goodwill Games calls back to the first Molotov episode (Brisby?), where her and Brock call each other out for killing their father/partner.

I feel like Season 3 has an actual plot to it in ways that the other seasons don't, which is interesting- there's very much a sequence of events, whereas the other seasons are all standalones or advancing themes and feelings for the most part, like Season 4 showing the boys growing up.
Season 2 had a solid storyline with The Monarch's return and reconciliation with Dr. Girlfriend, I always felt. But 3 was more comprehensive, instead of a seasonal-subplot sort of thing.

Yeah, I agree. Besides, he can be developing breasts due to the Nomolestol AND be a super soldier. It's not like the two things need to be mutually exclusive.
The doctor certainly thought Hank's tits were from the Nomolestol alone, if it's really important to you.

It's kind of interesting how Hank was so open to the transexual experience. It was a pretty surprising treatment from an irreverant cartoon show.

Not only were the escorts creator confirmed to be the Blackhearts, you can compare them to earlier apperances such as the end of Season 3.

I find it weird that speculation is only interesting if there's some intricate plot unfolding at a particular design. You can go overboard and forget how little the show pays attention to itself, but there are building plot lines and payoffs to talk about.

Like, "O.S.I. Love You" delivered on a number of loose plot points in a way that was satisfying and organic - does it particularly matter that they hadn't more than a notion of the later plot line when writing "The Silent Partners" and "Operation PROM"? As long as it's put together well, I don't think a show needs a 7-season master plan in order to have a deep, rich element of mystery and anticipation of how things will unfold.

What the writers dont care about are irrelevant details. If they want to make a joke and it fits the situation, it doesn't matter if it contradicts some throwaway plot point from seasons ago. (e.g. From the premiere this season: SPHINX not paying rent, and the Monarch not being Dr. Girlfriend's boss were once important plot points, both ignored in favor of a quick joke - and does that kind of poo poo really matter?)

I love the spoilers, it's been enough to pique my curiousity but nothing episode-ruining for me. Hearing it's a contender for best of the season has me incredibly hyped, in fact. So thanks guys, for keeping it mild in here.

In "Assisted Suicide", there's the scenes with The Rusty's Id and its harem. Makes it likely it's someone we've met (Dr. Girlfriend being my favorite outside chance).

Of course, they'll just as likely have a more interesting idea. I do think they have a mom, though - I don't think they're clones or test tube babies. Ben says about as much in the Halloween special.

The Monarch was doing unlicensed arching while he was still a Shadowman for Phantom Limb, but then he left Phantom Limb for good and eventually got guild licensed. Phantom Limb didn't pay attention to the Shadowmen identities because 24 was able to cover for him for a decent enough time, and wouldn't have paid attention to his henchmen's real names to prevent the Monarch from getting official guild membership.
Even once he was a licensed arch villain, he wasn't assigned to Rusty and hence was still arching illegally through Season 1 and 2. Phantom Limb covered it up because he wanted to take the Monarch down himself.

The whole deal with the Season 3 opener was poorly conveyed

It is hard to ignore how the Guild member in the previews , Vendetta, is dressed in Venture Industries colors and has the whole V thing going on. Wonder if that's gonna go anywhere.

Steppenwolf is the sillhouette that was made from taking Half-Jackal and making him full jackal, and I'm guessing they decided the councilman with Dr. Z's voice was, in fact, Dr. Z.

I'm hoping there's a Monarch subplot secreted from the previews. Part of me wonders that it's odd The Revenge Society hasn't shown up this season after spending a couple episodes on them in 4.5, but the episode is pretty crowded as it is.

Biggest oh poo poo moment was when the calamari guy called Shoreleave out.

I don't think they'd do a Season 6 without Doc... I hope Vendata, and Ben from the Halloween special are foreshadowing a Rusty clone situation, or some sort of ressurection... man, this is shaping up to be one hell of a season finale.

I'm pretty sure Hank and Dean, who are going to be sent to their godfathers per the finale description, are going to be living with two old Team Venture members

This was an even better episode than O.S.I. Love You, mainly because the jokes were a bit thicker on the ground. Don Hell's guild nightclub was such a fun setting, and the guild guys are pretty solid material.

I'm fairly certain the Monarch's parents are sitting in the speedboat during the first flashback in "Spanakopita!".

I just think it's cool that the Vendata/Venture connection actually panned out as something interesting. Really, it took the picture reveal from "SPHINX Rising" and swerved from the obvious Rusty/Monarch plot twists to deliver a truly surprising resolution.
