I don't think Rusty has a mother in the first place.

I elect to take Jonas' saying that Rusty was his greatest invention literally.

I've heard this theory before and it would certainly be believable. Jonas really was a self-aggrandizing rear end in a top hat and I wouldn't put it past him to "invent" a son just to get more points with the people. The thing that I'd say argues against this is we've seen quite a few cases where Jonas kind of saw Rusty as an ungrateful burden. Don't forget that he tried to "counsel" his son himself and when Rusty did actually try to open up Jonas just literally called him an ungrateful rear end. On a related note, someone once brought up how ironic it is that JJ is very much like his father, ironically having never met him. I'm sure that's done purposely.

Rusty is a miserable failure because his father couldn't be assed to be a father.

EDIT:
I also like to think that Jonas isn't dead and he's just hiding somewhere.

Jonas isn't that "noble." Its more likely Jonas bumped ugly with the other man's wife making Dr. Venture and Monarch half brothers. Also the Monarch looks like a little exaggerated Dean Venture in that photo. Also I'm going to toss this out there that Jonas may have in fact killed the Monarch's parents resulting in the plane crash that probably scrambled the Monarch's memory. Maybe Jonas Venture wasn't that great a scientist and he stole all his inventions from others and the Monarch's father caught on to that and the boning of his wife. Jonas kills the Monarch's family to protect his own image that sounds more plausible than Jonas acting benevolently.

This is the more likely scenario of the two offered.

Wow. You know, I will never understand considering trailers and commercials "spoilers". I get people not wanting the to be spoiled on unofficially released poo poo, but effing commercials? That just seems to be going a little far. Same went for people I used to watch Galactica with who intentionally covered their eyes at the end of the intro theme so they couldn't see the 20 seconds of random shots for episode you're about to see.

Just my personal opinion, not trying to raise a fuss.

Well this is me then, because I looked away from the title screen of BSG because I would rather see the scenes in context, rather than waiting for the scenes I knew were going to happen to happen. For that show I didn't want to know if it was going to be a big epic space battle episode, a government relations episode, a brawl in the crew episode, etc. The point of watching the show was seeing how the story flows, rather than trying to get a glimpse of it and trying to put together what you saw and know something is coming up, and now you're paying more attention to that then the story.

I also personally don't pay attention to previews or commercials, but if I were to be spoiled from a commercial on something I'm sure it would be minor, and I don't get upset about it. I just try to not see them, but don't let it ruin the show/movie for me if I do catch something from them. (Unless it's something to the level of Castaway where the trailer for the movie gives away the ending).

So what's the difference then in seeing the intro glimpses in BSG and the glimpses in a commercial? 9/10 its minor, and even if it is major it's usually presented in an intentionally *wrong* context to get throw you off. I never really felt like I was thrown off the story flow knowing that for example Tigh was had marines pointing their guns at him and he was about to be spaced. Seriously, that was one of my favorite moments in the show, and yet we got a glimpse of it in the intro.

Again, I'm not criticizing so much as saying that I think it's a little far. Where I'd (personally) draw the line between spoiler and not-spoiler is "unofficially released" things. So commercials/trailers = ok, intro clips = ok, aint it cool news plot updates = usually spoiler. And so forth.

The thing I love about Gary being 'The Viceroy' is that there's an actual butterfly called the Viceroy which has evolved to look like the (poisonous) Monarch butterfly so it won't get eaten by predators. It's brilliant, really - he was just so into the henching for the Monarch thing that when he finally goes out on his own, the name he picks isn't just great because he's imitating what he's learned from the Monarch, and a real viceroy would serve under a monarch, but also because it's the name of a lovely imitation of the same-named butterfly as well.

EDIT: REALLY? Beaten on this by one post? Goddamn. :(

I don't know why the Viceroy-Monarch connection never occurred to me, but it is awesome.

Also, while Viceroys were long thought to be the only beneficiary of having evolved to look like a Monarch, Monarchs benefit too. Turns out both butterflies are toxic, so they end up working to each other's mutual benefit.
