(Not permanently, just because of the wax acting like an earplug.) It's not just earwax. It's a seed the patient had shoved into her ear when she was 6, it's being removed now at 28.

Non-alcoholic wine/beer is also common in Islamic countries, where the more devout Muslims can drink without actually drinking. You could go to a convenience store and find 0% alcohol beer right next to the regular kind.
