The use of kanker as a swearword comes from the time where any kind of cancer was a death sentence, and there was a huge taboo talking about it. My granny told me that they wouldnt even say the word Kanker when talking about the disease, they said 'K'. So calling someone a kankerlijer was the most horrible thing you could say to a person, making it a good swearword. And the word just sounds so harsh with the hard K's, it rolls of the tongue beautifully.
