Switched.on posted:There is a small subset of people for whom a gaming laptop is a good idea. Just out of curiosity, what makes a laptop on the dining table better than a small desktop? Is it being able to fold the monitor and keyboard away? My girlfriend hates having to connect and disconnect them to create more space on the table.

My old laptop died in early July, and I've been holding out for Haswells since then. Is this Acer M a solid model, or should I wait the "three more weeks" for the Thinkpad? http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model-datasheet/NX.MEFAA.001 I know HPs are hit-or-miss, is the Envy a solid line? http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/D1L17AV?HP-ENVY-TouchSmart-14t-k000-Ultrabook

Posting again to see if anyone has an opinion on these. My real question is if the Acer M and HP Envy lines are worth looking into.

Hadlock posted:What do you want to do with it? You can pick up an Ivy Bridge Yoga from the outlet store for $500 if you're willing to login around dawn on monday morning (before it's picked clean). My wife hates how the keyboard is just sitting there when you fold the yoga back to use it as a tablet. We're mostly going to use it for word processing and streaming movies away from a power source, so battery life and lightness are the key worries.

Naffer posted:It's on my premier page as "Latitude 14 3000 Series." The build your own page has some kinks in it right now, like the touchscreen LCD option throws an error as being incompatible with "shipment box" That's exactly what I'm looking for. do you know how long laptops stay on the premier site until they're available on the main site?
