Idgie or Kush, no contest.

Our local shelter took over some dogs from another shelter 400 km away.

I visit often and take dogs for a walk there, since my apartment and working situation does rule out adoption at this point (one day...).

Hoping to meet tomorrow:

a 9 month old Shar-Pei/Thai-Ridgeback mix, Mai-Tai.
Weird name for a male dog, but whatevs. Looks like a real bro-dog. Probably even lifts.

a 5 year old Pinscher mix, Tom
Tempted to quit my job and take him with me. Who needs money, right?
We'll just travel the world together.

Trip report

Went to the shelter, lots of new faces.

One in particular stole my heart immediately.
I was this close to just say to hell with it, I'm taking you with me, consequences be damned. Spend almost 45 minutes at his kennel before he was taken in to meet an interested young couple.

Meet Elliot, a 5 month old mix of... something. I have no idea.
Beagle, Lab, and some dutch shepherd for the color of his fur maybe?

BOOP

Here's a little video footage.

Sorry for the vertical camera syndrome at the start.
I was quite understandibly distracted.

I feel like there should be a crowdfunding platform for people who would have to give up their jobs to adopt and care for a dog.

Check the video :)

Edit:
Went back to the shelter today to put in a reservation for Elliot until I could try and sort things out with my employer and landlord on monday.

The young couple who was also interested will pick him up on Thursday.

Boy, do I feel lovely right now.

vvvvvvvvvvvvvv
While I appreciate the sentiment, it's a) a non-euthanizing shelter and b) I would have saved him as well. :colbert:

I'm not quite there yet, but let's assume I was ready to adopt.

Which one of these good dogs should I choose?
I'm torn (and can't get both, which of course would be the obvious choice).

Went to the shelter today to walk a couple of dogs.
What's the worst that could happen?
It's after christmas, all the adorable dogs have been adopted, so there's no temptation waiting for me... or so I thought.

Sorry for the loss of your buddy.

Here, have something uplifting:

A soon to be retired police officer wants to take his K9 partner with him when he leaves, is told the dog is the city's property and needs to be sold in an auction to the highest bidder. The estimated "worth" of Ajax is $3,500 - an amount Officer Hickey was willing to pay anyway. But again, the dog is "property" and needs to be auctioned off.

"Wait, that's not uplifting, you monster", you say?

Well, this is

Let's just hope Martin Shkreli doesn't get wind of this auction, though.

This is Hatti.
I used to visit him at the shelter and take him for walks for 8 weeks in december/january.

Then one day, at lunch, a coworker told me that her friend would go to the shelter to adopt a dog.

I asked her if she knew which one and she replied: "Hatti".
At first I was "nooooOOOoooo", but then I was happy he got adopted.

Today her friend visited us during our lunch break.
It was a good lunch break.
