If there was some kind of room/area selection to designate/restrict NPC crafters to specific areas, as well as NPC specialists (Doctors, mechanics, engineers, otakus), I could really see this game emerging further from the primordial roguelike ooze into a colony builder. e: Also fixing the loving AI

Are there any good single board PC's with a decent handheld case, full qwerty keypad (numpad is a plus, FN key number is essential at minimum) that can run Cataclysm pretty well? This is 100% a dumb idea that I'm not quite sure I even care enough to implement yet btw

Fun > Balance, in terms of importance. Dying in this game is the fun part. Making a character with a backstory and watching them hilariously die is like, 9/10ths of the game
