Ok, so I'm pretty set on getting a Ford Fiesta. Now do I go for the ST fully loaded with the recaro's for a $270/month lease, or be a cheapie and get the new 1.0L ecoboost hatchback for $160/month? I feel like if I go test drive an ST, I'll never be able to get the 1L. Is the ST as good as they say it is and worth the extra coin?

triple clutcher posted:seems like an odd cross-shop ... the 3cyl is all but poverty-spec, and the ST is pretty well-trimmed even without the Recaros. I think a 'regular' SE or even a Titanium might be a better compromise. Unfortunately the 3Cyl Turbo only comes on the SE trim with no available options, special order only. The ST I feel as if I would never be able to live with myself if I didn't get those Recaros. I've driven the normal n/a 1.6L and It's ok but I want a unique and somewhat interesting car - so the 1.0L ecoboost would suit that well. I could hypermile 50+MPG out of it, it's super light, more power than the base 1.6, sounds cool, and has a turbo. Call me crazy, but I don't really like any other new cars under 35K other than the fiesta - everything is too generic and boring. I would get an FR-S but the interior is terrible and it has way too little power for $25,000, test driven a few and just came out underwhelmed, it just feels empty, like it's missing something. The Fiesta ST seems like an amazingly better value since it actually fits people and cargo. If I had the cash i'd be in a 3 series again in a heartbeat.

I'd get the FR-S over the Abarth if I wanted something that was extremely small and not practical. The Fiesta has real back seats and 4 doors. I already have a Miata so I don't need another car that fits nothing. I rode in a Focus ST with the recaros, it would be worth the 2 grand for me.

Well I've gone and done it, I ordered a 2014 Fiesta ST with the Recaro package, black on black. 6 weeks estimated time of delivery. Took me 3 hours of dealer negotiation to get the lease payments I wanted. Got an excellent deal. I drove the MOLTEN ORANGE model they had on the lot and it was incredible. Much, much faster than I anticipated, makes the FR-S seem like a prius. Handling was perfect, interior was very nice, basically a perfect car except for being FWD, but it honestly does not matter one bit with this thing. I loved it. The tester I tried had the standard cloth seats which were crap, and $2,500 in options - navigation, grey wheel paint, red brake paint, orange car paint, and a sunroof. I would much rather have the heated leather recaro seats for $2000 and none of those options since the stock ST comes with every possible option the Titanium has except for the useless few the one on hand had. Now to sell my Prizm and Impreza... I think I'll still keep my Miata until it completely explodes since its practically unsellable with 206K, a salvage title, and terrible paint.

Luckily I still have my Miata with snows to hold me over, but it's 8F outside and I can't ride my bike, and the Fiesta will have heated recaro's so it's been a long wait. I ordered mine mid November and I just got a call from the dealer today and they said it just shipped out and should be here "sometime in January"

Haha amazing, especially since I didn't think even my old E46 330Ci would compare to the ST. I can't wait for mine, I really hope I can get it soon - dealer completely hosed up my order, long story but I should have had my car weeks ago and I won't have it for another 2 months at best unless they can get me a local car.

The fit seems super practical, I only test drove one - a manual """""Sport""""" model, I say sport with such enthusiasm because it made the Chevy Prizm I rolled up in feel like a McLaren F1. It may have been one of the slowest cars I have ever driven. 30MPH in second gear and I floor it - nothing happens. Real cool car in terms of space and reliability, handled nicely, but holy crap an Si/turbo model would be incredible. Just slap the KA20 in that bitch and it would move so well. Honda bring back the fun, I miss you.

No I meant the Prizm, (which is basically a Corolla and has a 1.8L I4 1ZZ-FE, ~140HP) was much faster. I always see everyone raving about how fun the Fit is and I just don't get it at all. Maybe I'm crazy but it was so painfully slow it sucked out any fun I could have had. I have driven slower cars, but I guess I just expected more with all the praise it gets. Why did they stick a wheezy 1.5L sohc in that thing?

I just picked up a Fiesta ST, fully loaded, recaros, navi, sunroof etc. Absolutely love it so far. Great power, amazing handling, excellent interior. The summer tires are terrible in this weather, its been below freezing and even on clean dry roads they are all over the place, especially if there is salt on the road. I've already been pulled over twice in a week, so I just ordered a Valentine One for it! I want to buy snows but I just bought a set for my miata and I'm going to want r-comps for the Fiesta for auto-x and tracking, and I figure I can rock the miata when it snows.

Normally I hate stupid cold air intakes, but apparently the stock intake on my Fiesta ST muffles the choo choo turbo noise, which frankly for me is half the fun of a turbo car. Would this be an obscene waste of my $300? The build quality seems solid and it makes an excellent sound in the video, but I have never heard of FSWERKS. I figure a less restrictive intake on a turbo can never hurt though. http://www.fswerks.com/products/fswerks-green-filter-cool-flo-air-intake-system-ford-fiesta-st-2014

Interesting - it looks like for $300 I can get more power OR sound. The car is a total riot stock so I think I'll just invest in trackdays, brake pads and tires for the time being.

BoostCreep posted:I'm debating trading my Grand Cherokee in on a Fiesta ST but I'm concerned about interior space. Do those of you here that own one ever feel cramped? I need to make sure I can take the car on a road trip for a couple days with two suitcases in the rear hatch and enough room for two people and a 75lb dog. The actual trunk would fit two suitcases no problem - but do you mean two people in the back and a dog or just two people in front and a dog in the back? If the latter it would be easily doable. The back seat is small but easily would fit two full sized adults - 3 in the back might be a squeeze. If you get one, get the recaro package - absolutely worth it. Just go to any ford dealer and sit in one. I personally find it perfect for my needs, more than enough space and 5 doors. The car itself is incredible, handling is excellent, power is more than I expected, and the interior and tech rules. I've gotten about ~28mpg on average in the few weeks I've owned it. Takes 91+ gas.

It's funny seeing people say the Fiesta is so small. I know it's a small car, but I daily drove my Miata for the past year, so going to the ST was like getting an Escalade for me, it seems downright massive. I now have 2 extra doors, 3 extra seats and an actual hatch back! It feels like I could fit everything I own inside it. I suppose for 99% of people the Fiesta feels small, but it's funny how much your perspective can change depending on what you're used to. I guess if you've been used to a Grand Cherokee the Fiesta is going to seem like a clown car. I say give it a shot, I don't want to sound preachy but I'm betting most people don't need such large cars, I'm sure you would adapt to it just fine, and the turbo will make you not care about the space concerns anyway.

This is right on the nose, I've gotten an average of 28mpg in the 3 weeks I've owned it, with a pretty even mix of city and highway, driving rather hard. If I babbied it I could easily get mid 30's since it has a fairly tall 6th gear.

So far I gather that you press it once for limited ESC, and hold it down to turn it off completely? Full off is a long press, I'll use that for autox and tracking when its warm out.

I'll skip the gas station snacks if it nets me ~8-10HP, but to each his own I guess - I never really even think about fuel costs to be honest. My ST gets at least 22MPG and if I'm going on a long highway trip I'll do about 28. Pretty good considering I'm WOT most of the time.

The sunroof is really far back so it's slightly useless but kind of nice. The Nav is way worse than google maps on my iphone. Not worth it imo. Completely impossible to add a route with voice commands, so you have to type it in and even that can be a pain. Mine actually completely froze up today and left a big "cancel route" dialog on the nav and wouldnt go away even after I turned the car off/on. I had to use voice commands to fix it. Definitely not worth $800 - just get a nice smartphone mount.

I had an 02 focus sedan for a summer - it ended up being a huge piece of poo poo with a ton of stupid little problems. All 4 wheel bearings went bad within a month, one of my springs cracked in half, and all 4 shocks were blown out, lots of rust issues, and lots of little electrical failures - however my friend had an 03 ZX3 from arizona and it was great so maybe my problems were completely rust belt related. Regardless of the issues I had, the handling on that car was outstanding, shifter was pretty decent, and the power was more than adequate from the 2.0 zetec. I just think ford used a lot of really sub standard, lowest bidder parts that generation which weren't designed to last more than 100K miles or against any sort of winter. I've owned many super high mileage cars, and I've never seen parts fail the way they did on that car, including a 350k+ mile 92' ford escort and 160K mile '99 ford escort.

It's acceleration is excellent - way quicker than anything in it's class, so thats bullshit. It's a 2,600lbs hatchback with 200hp and 220~ ft-lbs of torque, it's slow compared to a real sports car, but it's definitely the fastest subcompact I know of. As far as reliability, I've done about 15K on mine this year, and not a single problem, and I absolutely flog on mine every time I drive it. I wouldn't trust consumer reports - go with the advice of about every credible automotive journalist who raves about it, and slapped it on just about every "best car of the year" list I can think of. It's definitely the best car I've owned for sure - I can't think of many downsides - the low profile tires are the only thing I really don't like. It's stiff but thats the way I like my hot hatches. Just make sure to get the Recaro seats. edit: re: the above review - you have to be at least 350lbs not to fit in the recaro seats, and they break in after a month or so very nicely - my ford touch is not bad at all, but the voice commands are absolutely, hilariously useless. I also average about 20-24MPG because I actually drive the car like it's meant to be driven - I've never even hit 30mpg, let alone average it - so the person reviewing it sounds like a very, very fat person who drove the car slowly.
