You know, I'd be less worried about my 16 year old daughter dating a successful 40 year old cartoonist than dating a 16 year old loser.

I mean, Jesus, kid, at least date a motherfucker with abortion money and house to have sex at where your mother and I don't have to hear it. Also, if he treats her poorly, boom, that asshole's gonna catch a statch charge.

Please, John K. Date my daughter... Save her from dating smelly dropouts who wanna-be Soundcloud rappers.

I like fuzz and "lo-fi" sound, but it just doesn't work for me in the case of RDJ's stuff. I guess it has its charm, but doesn't jostle my jimmies. I also like crisp, high production value music as well.

But hey look, tastes are subjective!

A lot of people in IDM, (or any music that has sliced breaks) started viewing their music production as an arms race of wizardry tricks, effects, and complexity. After launching some of the first salvos with the RDJ Album and the Hangable Autobulb E.P.s, I think RDJ took a step back from that direction while his label mates Squarepusher and Mike Pardinas kept trudging.

This is kind of his modus operandi. He did it with the Warp melodic techno sound Autechre grew from. You could put the more serene moments of SA 2 or I Care Because You Do, in the same ambient down-tempo camp as Boards of Canada's output.

So RDJ never really mastered each of these styles, but he had a hand in their creation or evolution. He's kind of a hyper-active type who bores easily from each creative sandbox he puts himself in, instead of mastering those genres.

There are ten hours left in the Kickstarter for the new unreleased Caustic Window LP. Donate while you still can if you'd like a legal digital download. Money goes to Rephlex and a charity.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/watmmofficial/cat023-caustic-window-own-the-legendary-record-by

According to the WATMM guy:

quote:

Well, after the Kickstarter ends, we have to wait 2 weeks for the funds to clear, then the money will be sent to Rephlex, who will in turn pay the owner of the record, and then it will be delivered by hand to the studio in Essex where it will be ripped.

After that, and some final QA by Richard himself (so I'm told), the digital files will be sent to me and I can then get the download vouchers prepared and ready to go - this is why I said "June" to account for any delays/snags along the way (and to account for how long things typically take).

Once the Kickstarter ends, I'll be posting more definitive info, and perhaps a few surprises...

I am excited. :black101:

I wanted to back this but was hesitant due to the fact a lot of works on the compilation album were like the song you posted. I always found that side of afx boring but then you had gems like Cordialatron and On the Romance Tip on the same lp so i'm curious how it turns out. Would appreciate a review :)

Caustic Window LP is available for streaming! http://www.stereogum.com/1687220/stream-aphex-twin-caustic-window/mp3s/album-stream/

I also believe those who gave to the kickstarter got emailed their digital copies today, too.

Excited!

It shouldn't come as a huge surprise, but it sounds very much like stuff from SAW1/On/Classics era. I was hoping for something slightly less club-oriented, but then again we knew what to expect. It's very fun to hear new stuff of his after so long.

based on the bpm, minipops 67 or XMAS_EVET10 could be the metz track!!! though 120 is a pretty common bpm

That's an unreleased Squarepusher track. He also plays a few other unreleased Squarepusher tracks during that set, like a great remix of Abacus from the Venus no. 17 EP, meant for an acid type EP around the early 2000s.

Is that where that white label Squarepushery acid track Cylob DJd a while back came from?

So I practically fell out of my chair at the sight of that blimp. It's about time for some new Aphex! I can't believe it's been 13 years already since Drukqs was released.

This is phenomenal. Really hoping this is included on the album.

This is very Tuss/Analord. I don't know that a new Aphex Twin album would go over that ground again after 13 years, though the tempos are about right.

But who knows, right? How wildy different are I Care.. RDJ and Drukqs? I hope it's something totally different.

tuss and analord for sure, but the more playful synths on the middle/second half have a very RDJ feel to me. not the sort of mood you expect from tuss/analord

i've been hoping for an official release since I heard this, so I am optimistic

Excited for this as well.... i've only been into RDJ for a few years but it will be interesting to see what he's been doing for the past few years and the differences between his older releases (including his other aliases).

The "latest" from him, without regard to aliases, has been 2007 right?
Caustic Window was recorded very early, like 1994, so i'm not counting that?

This is a super nerdy observation, but the presence of BPMs suggest that the tracks will be more 'conventional' as per his AFX moniker that takes more from acid and Detroit techno. You wouldn't expect it to be mentioned if the tracks sounded like Bucephalus or Stone In Focus or Icct Hedral, and this is the Aphex I want to hear most.

Just a reservation, he's never really done a full length that isn't amazing in some way, so we'll be in for a treat. I'm just hoping for something really unique if this has the Aphex moniker attached to it.

I look at it like this: There's a reason why he put "Aphex Twin" on Analord 10 and AFX on the other ones.
