Our licensing standards in the US are just a loving joke. You could literally put TRAINING WHEELS on your motorcycle and get an M license.
In many states such as mine NJ, if you take the test on a trike then you are limited to riding trikes and can't ride a two wheeler. You get the M endorsement but the license is marked with a Trike only restriction If you take a road test on a bike that is 231CC or less, the license you get is restricted to riding only a 500CC or less motorcycle. Again M endorsement but marked restriction.

Went to leave on a trip on Saturday and went to attach my GPS to my bike and noticed that my Ram mount had been stolen. I commute and park my bike very day but rarely use the mount so it could have been stolen a while ago. I ended up using google maps on my cell phone speaking directions to me on my Sena bluetooth headset. Who the hell steals a Ram mount?

So loving angry. I use my motorcycle to commute every morning to the train station. For years, we parked next to the bicycles by side of the station and no one complained or cared but recently the police posted notices on all our motorcycles saying that we couldn't park in bike parking. obviously because someone whined about it. So I started parking in the pay lot for cars. There are no motorcycle designated spots so I have been chaining up my motorcycle in a car spot and paying for parking. The same idiots who whined about us parking for free didn't have the foresight to realize that forcing us to park in pay parking would mean fewer spots for cars to park. Today, I came back late and someone had turned my bike in the spot so that they could fit their car in my spot. They had already left so I have no idea who it is. I am loving heated. First, I paid for that loving spot the exact same amount as a car. Second, you do not touch my loving bike especially not to yank it around while it is chained up and in gear. I going to have a discussion with my town police and parking enforcement. If they are going to force us to park with and pay for car parking, I am not going to tolerate car drivers pulling this bullshit and piggybacking off my spot.

Things worked out perfectly today. I pulled into the spot today. It is always the same spot because it is the only spot with a place to chain up and a cop pulled up next to me. He told me they just remarked an entire section of the lot for motorcycles only with lock up points for every motorcycle and escorted me over there. It is a dozen motorcycle only parking spots with bike width marked spots and sunk in tie up points. This is a totally awesome change. Huge appreciation for how the town dealt with this.

I am not even certain I understand what just happened but I almost got kicked off a train for wearing a helmet. I commute every day by a combination of motorcycle and train. Usually when I get close to my stop on the train line coming home I'll throw on my Kreiga backpack and wear my helmet so I can just hop on my motorcycle to head home. I was on the train about 2 minutes from my stop and put on the helmet to walk to the back of the train closer to where my bike was parked when I got stopped by a conductor. He claimed that I couldn't ride the train while wearing a helmet and that I wasn't allowed to "hide my face." He wanted to make me take off my helmet or boot me. I argued that I just threw on the helmet to disembark at the next stop and didn't take it off. I think he is making up that rule in the first place. The whole interaction was weird. I've never been given grief at all for it before today.

I used to work for a global bank and at one of our offices outside the U.S., we had a security guard with an unauthorized firearm get into a gun battle with a bank robber. Neither managed to hurt each other but they did manage to shoot up the branch. Management wanted desperately to fire him but since the media and public were treating him as a hero, the bank couldn't take any action against him without incurring hugely bad press so they ended up letting it slide.

The AMA is just like the NRA - an organization that represents manufacturers and patronizes owners, using them as muscle for their lobbying efforts on behalf of the manufacturers. The only reason I'm a member is for the cheap roadside assistance.
Sorry I don't agree with your anti-AMA rant. I've been a member on and off for decades and the AMA has done a ton of lobbying work over the years to prevent motorcycles and motorcyclists from treatment as second class citizens on the road. Not sure if you are too young to remember but the AMA was instrumental in laws designed to prevent employers from denying healthcare benefits based on participating in motorcycling. See HIPAA's provisions on barring companies from denying health insurance based on participation in legal activities. The federal agencies then interpreted the law to mean that insurance had to be offered but coverage could exclude those activities. The AMA lobbied to change that interpretation through legislation. If it weren't for the AMA in part, motorcyclists wouldn't get health insurance even at work.

Motorcycles were originally banned from HOV lanes. It's the AMA who helped with the "Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991" which is the reason why motorcycles can use HOV lanes.

As far as lane splitting goes, the AMA supports responsible lane splitting: and in fact lane splitting is the first position statement listed in their list on on highway position papers.

Oh god, I just learned that NYC now has Revel electric scooter rentals (limited to 30 mph, no motorcycle endorsement needed, and as little as $1 to unlock). Apparently they've caused a noticeable uptick in ER visits. This is going to be worse than the most wobbly citibike riders. Renting a scooter on vacation in the Caribbean is significantly different than doing so in the middle of NYC. I don't want to be an elitist about this but as someone who lived and rode in NYC for years; in my opinion, it takes quite a bit of experience and caution to stay safe on a motorcycle in NYC and I'm not sure that people who don't even have endorsements are up for NYC riding.

I lived and rode in Manhattan for many years (am now in the NJ suburbs). There are a lot of people who ride in NYC but it's a pretty unforgiving learning curve until you get enough experience to deal with it. Buses, taxis, Ubers, are all really aggressive and there is little traffic enforcement. The rules of the road and etiquette are pretty different in NYC than outside NYC. So it is tolerable for experienced rider. Put a rider with no endorsement or experience on an e-scooter with a passenger and have them not wear the included helmets and then have them learn in NYC traffic is a pretty interesting business model. Yes the Post and Daily News are going to play up the "carnage" and fear, but drat. Thank god the Revel scooters are not allowed on the bridges and highways because there are enormous potholes on the FDR and traffic is moving fast with zero room between vehicles.

Motorcyclist used to have ergo charts which drew a triangle for comparisons showing seat height, peg height and clip on height and reach. I prefer having my sportbikes pegs high as they're the first things to touch down. I'd like it if my stock KTM pegs were higher and my MV Agusta pegs are perfect for me. There's no way the side stand on the MV or to the best of my knowledge any of the older Ducati superbikes would have the side stand touch down first.

Not to mention the temporary bolts in place of the grab rail/ bolts were torqued on and crushed a part of the plastic."

My perspective matches Slavvy's. I've ridden on road for 32+ years and the numbers of times I've seen or been aware of a motorcycle accident where I think that the person would have been saved by ABS is vanishingly small. Does ABS have a purpose? Yes. But it's not like car ABS you won't be slamming the brakes while cranking the steering and expect to stay up and it's definitely not a substitute for good judgment.

Every time it goes in for maintenance it's fine. I know it's an older engine but 126 hp is plenty for me. Yes it's heavy and underpowered compared to current bikes but the chassis is sublime. Trail braking deep in corners is a joy. It sat for a few yesrs unused so it's in the shop for replacement of fluids, hoses and fuel pump.
