it's great if you want to learn some mechanical / electrical stuff (because there's always something that needs fixin')

if you don't want to work on it then good luck / stick to emulation :T

i wanna make a clock from a pinball backglass. not one with reels, just a classic one where numbers just light up.

what would you guys recommend i use to drive ~20 LEDs. i've never played with arduinos or w/e so pls help. i wanna learn this stuff and i figure this is a cool project for an idiot nerd like me

yeah i know gently caress all about coding and that post about the msp430 is just complete gibberish to me (sorry). guess i'll check out those arduinos. they're a lot cheaper than i thought, and considering that backglass might cost me 200$, well, 10$ more on the guts isn't much

thanks~

lmao that's literally me with my current idiot project

i have no loving idea what i'm doing whatsoever with the electronics, holy poo poo i jumped into deep end of the pool w/o knowing how to get wet

woodwork part is mostly done, thx for the help dad.

i asked on the adafruit forums exactly what parts i'd need to get started. fucker who helped me didn't mention the usb cable so i assumed the arduino uno came with one

welp gonna have to order one, i need resistors and LEDs that i can actually weld on, these 'neopixel mini pcb' or whatever are so fuckin small, jesus chrsit

holy poo poo i am so lost with this stuff, the more i read the less i understand

Yeah there aren't many around anymore (it's fuckin 65 years old), i managed to get the backglass b/c it's broken. put it between two panes of glass and it holds together just fine -- can't use it in a pin tho. but there's more backglasses 'around' than full machines somehow. who knows

i was gonna recreate it in future pinball but then you have to do some coding poo poo and man

i just don't know wtf

poo poo i didn't mention what my idiot project even is

i want to make a clock out of that backglass.

the millions would light up for the hours, two of em for hours above 7. 100k thru 500k for tens of minutes, 50 000 for 5 minute increments.

this should be simple ..... at most it's 20 LEDs ! gently caress!!

some of the leads most likely touched others which explains the game acting really loving weird sometimes. there's this sound after you've lost your last ball & the game is trying to get you to buy in for another, it's a lady moaning "ooh, one more time". for a little while it would play that sound clip for every sound effect. every bumper hit, every switch, every fuckin thing

it was great
