speaking of audio projects, i have spent a lot of time obsessively dicking with this thing https://soundcloud.com/danwarren/waiting-take-4 it's for a concept album built from astronaut memoir audiobooks, based on the idea that nasa is doing isolation tank experiments trying to drive people crazy. it was supposed to have a lot more text from the books, but i just got obsessed with the idea of trying to recreate the experience of being driven insane by the sound of dripping water and your own breathing. idk, maybe later chapters will be more text-y should also definitely be listened to while intoxicated, preferably on headphones in a pitch black room floating in a tub of warm water

Sagebrush posted:might haswell cross post the pics here. i finished my bike lights. all told: 100 leds. 1* 2800mW in the head, 2* 2800mW in the tail, 48* 220mW rgb on each side, 1* little status LED. program is mostly just a bunch of state machines and timers, primarily algorithmic stuff like chasers and fades, only a couple of predefined arbitrary sequences. i still have half the program space left, plus more than 2kb of ram and i'm guessing about 2/3 of the clock cycles assuming i didn't do anything stupid, so i can add other features down the line (hall effect sensor, gyroscope, etc) that is seriously cool

i would f'reals do some soundtracky stuff, that sounds awesome. i've been doing more and more orchestral stuff lately, just learning how to arrange for that sort of setup speaking of, my latest idiot spare time project is basically just to make myself slap some music together much more often, even if i don't have an endpoint in mind. i've let my current living arrangement get in the way of my music stuff way too much.

echinopsis posted:sweet man that's p much all various kontakt samples and effectrix, arranged in reaper from memory i think it's action strings, damage, embertone's canjo, signor paganini solo violin, ebow samples, and some cymbal swells. i've only really started to get heavily into using samplers in the past year or so because the current living situation makes it difficult to record my real instruments - too noisy. hence the above push to get in there and make myself do stuff anyway, figuring out how to do something interesting in a way that doesn't really require hooking up a microphone. i'll be able to get back to the real instruments in a few months, which is fun, but for now i'm using this as an opportunity to learn
