i used that jamacian beer's bottles once (red stripe?) and holy poo poo do not use those thin pieces of poo poo for your own beer. there is nothing worse than waking up to the sound of wet explosions. trying to get them outside when half have already gone off is special kind of terrifying too.

i'm making more of a screensaver than a game and it's basically 2d/2.5d really although i think 3d will be useful for lighting effects. i'm doing some cartography nerd stuff, eduard imhof and the swisstopo maps are the look i'm going for

digital relief shading is not exactly new ground but imo most of the current implementations suck and i want to do my own thing with it

yeah I looked at ue4 for similar generated terrainy stuff and i don't think it's set up for that sort of thing, apparently collision data and lighting needs to be precompiled so you can't do procedural stuff?

idk what you mean. i guess so? i used blueprints to make procedural things and buildings would be relatively easy as far as thigs go

last time i looked into ue it couldn't do procedural terrain which is pretty important for a city builder imo , something about it precalculating all the lighting?? i think i'll look into it again

I used to want a game like civ, but it was realistic in the sense that you didn't have a god view, you told someone to go on ship and heard nothing for months/years and then they came back and told you and showed you a poorly constructed map or maybe they didn't come back at all. you just wouldn't know. like real leaders in the 1600s experienced. l
