That's Play store support; don't know if that applies to Amazon.

It's a cord, I'd guess. I have a little stick computer thingy and it has a 3" extender cord.

Moral of the story: Never order a physical product from Play. Between their shortage issues and picking the absolute worst shipping methods, you'll never get your product.

I ordered mine within a few hours of the announcement. I got it about a week later.

The caveat with the Play store is that they will never have enough stock to meet initial demand, so you need to buy as early as you can.

UPS/USPS is not the "worst shipping method" by a long shot. You had an unfortunate experience in that they lost your package but this is surely not typical.

UPS: That's not our tracking number. We took it to the post office. Contact the shipper.

This is odd, because I put the tracking number for my Chromecast into UPS's system and it was able to tell where it was, even after the handoff to USPS. I also was able to track the package via USPS.com.

Is there a way to force the Chromecast to update? Mine is powered by the TV which I haven't turned on in a week and it's still on build 13300. I've tried resetting it from the companion application and also cold booting it to no avail.

Just let it update on its own. It's likely that you're only prolonging the update the more you gently caress with it.

Am I crazy or does this thing need to be powered constantly? It looks like it should be able to charge itself or something. Otherwise, it works great. Just need to figure out how to hide the power cord since it is hanging out of the side of my TV.

It doesn't have a battery, so if you want to cast anything it has to be plugged in and turned on. I guess you could leave it off and just turn it on when you need it, but that kind of defeats the purpose of "pres butan for vidja"

edit:

Plug it into a usb port on your tv. There is no battery.

Not all TVs can send enough juice through the USB port to power the thing.

Chromecast should work on HBO Go. Doesn't HBO Now just give you an HBO Go account?

Also AFAIK it is only the sign up process that requires an iOS device. So if you have an iPad or know someone with an iPhone or w/e you should be able to sign up and cast away!

HBO Go != HBO Now.

edit: You do need an iOS device to stream HBO Now (or, as withak said, a web browser will do tab casting).

I dislike the Chromecast because if you need to pause or whatever it's a pain. You have to find the phone, unlock it and then get into the app and unpause it. A lot of the time when I pause it it doesn't actually make the video pause either.

It's just a whole lot of awkward clunkiness in it in general.

I just use the controls on the lock screen but maybe you disabled those.

No phone unlock. Don't even need to loving wake the thing. Pick up the phone and touch the "N" icon that automatically lights up when you move the phone.

Do you absolutely need a Google Home device to take advantage of the (SmartThings) home automation features of the Assistant? I have a Google Home and I'm digging it so far, but it'd be great to have a Pixel do the work while I'm out of earshot.

You can use IFTTT to do it if you link the Assistant service and the SmartThings service
