So since the new OS update, installing apps via the web play store is a no go. Pretty much everything requires an apk sideload now. With that said, my wifi interuptions, and voice commands seem to be improved.

Does anyone else get a large 10 second pause sometimes when using voice search for YouTube etc ? That's the only issue I have with the device, it will sometimes lag out when attempting to decipher my western Canadian accent.

So at the oilfield camp I'm staying at right now. Sort of like a dorm, for people who actually work... And I just noticed there are a shitload of devices on the network that openly accept casts from my phone... These are all "hard as gently caress" pipeline types. Hehe

voice search has improved a lot in the last couple updates. Works well with netflix and xbmc/genesis. I cant see myself needed more functionality.

Nexus Player works minty with kodi/genesis, Netflix and YouTube and Google play music. If you need more than that you should honestly start going outside more.

This is true. I generally just download a BR rip if I want a soft copy. My hard copies go on the shelf and never get touched after the first or second play.

A non insignificant feature on it is straight up poo poo. If someone wants to buy a broken product for a discount then uhhh well I don't even know what to say to that. Does Chromecast run kodi ? If not then its useful for 0% of the people I set up android boxes for.

I've been setting up a lot of cheap POS android boxes with kodi and Genesis streamer. I refuse to take cash for it because they're so unreliable. I mean it works for now, but I don't want to hear people whining when it stops. Currently I just take scotch, tequila etc on trade.

SIR FAT JONY IVES posted:You can use an USB to Ethernet adapter. The NP has micro USB port so you'd have to go usb otg and then regular USB to Ethernet. However there's enough other reasons to avoid the NP as we have stated. And as a flipside to this, As a kodi/netflix/plex/casting device, the NP works flawless. I've set up a dozen of them and have had no complaints. Plays any file I can throw at it, steams high bitrate stuff over a wireless G connection perfectly. The only thing holding me back was a lack of support from Kodi for simple remotes. Now with 16.xx A longpress brings up the context menu on items. Kodi also switches refresh rate for my 24p stuff.

My 2011 LG tv works well with the NP. The only thing that doesn't work on the TV remote is the info button. Edit: But it doesn't work with this 2015 Hisense, or my onkyo receiver.

Ok what's the better way for gaming on the Nexus player, Xbox 360 controller with pC wireless adapter or Xbox one controller (Bluetooth?) Or do I need the wireless adapter for that too ? I'll be streaming from PC to Nexus player via nvidia/moonlight.

I tried playing Doom via moonlight but there is noticeable lag. The USB to microusb adapter with wireless adapter for xbox360 controller works great on the Nexus player. Unfortunately 1080p/60 is a bit laggy. Strange because it worked perfectly with mad Max.

Three Olives posted:Chomecast Audio multi-room streaming works flawlessly, honestly I can't think of a reason you would choose Sonos over Chromecast audio besides the brand or like being really, really committed to Apple Music. I'm heavily invested in android but Sonos does actually work really well. Chromecast audio is probably more flexible but the sound quality of the Sonos stuff is impressive for its size and price point of the play:1. Actually I can cast to the Sonos system within the google play music app, so controling it via a Google home might actually work.

Can the google home thing integrate with Sonos at all ? Google play music can "cast" to the Sonos system.

Why is YouTube loud on my TV, yet Plex and Kodi are quiet. Like 12/100 volume is loud with YouTube, yet I had to watch Jack Reacher at 90/100 today via Plex. It's it's basically all programming served through Plex or Kodi.

TheScott2K posted:Your YouTube videos are probably 2.0 while your Linux ISOs you're watching through Plex are likely 5.1 AC3 or DTS. Your TV's doing a lovely job of downsizing the 5.1 for its internal speakers. Maybe see if the TV has a volume normalization option? That kind of thing is cancer for a stereo system but for internal speakers it can be a lifesaver. Doh, I forgot kodi has some functions regarding that too, boost on downsample or whatever. I wonder if plex does. I'll fiddle with dynamic range compression on the tv and signal boosts in kodi.

Works well for both of my NP's. Not bragging just letting you know that it is possible to have a smooth experience. I don't do any live TV capturing. It's just a YouTube/Kodi/Netflix box.
