Is there a mod that makes oceans deeper? I am attempting to make a good underwater base, but am having difficulties with keeping it all under water, and after a point digging down just means I am building a regular underground base. I want to make biodomes underwater, not little rooms.

Nah, that just leads to a boring flat landscape. If I wanted that I would build on a superflat world. I kinda like to build to the contours of the landscape. Leads to some interesting base designs.

drat. That is a pretty good beginners guide. Not terribly in depth, but enough to start at least.

I don't mind Thaumcraft, it is just that research tends to be a giant bloat... Hopefully the new minigame version is better then the throw stacks of sticks at the problem version from TC2. Or the click till your mouse breaks from TC3.

What I would like to see in solar generation something OTHER then photovoltaic. Give me a proper Heliostat tower, where properly aligned mirrors are the key to good production, or even an Updraft Tower. If you make it a proper multiblock structure I can have an awesome tower on the top of my mountain generating power for my base.
Also, proper multiblock windmills that convert rotational mechanical energy into store-able electric energy. I really kinda dislike plonking down a single block and stuffing coal into it to generate power. I like designing stuff. Even if I always end up with function over form.

I am having a bear of a time getting the Wylker modpack to run. There is no error message that I can see. MC just crashes when it hits the Mojang screen. I have installed the latest Java, and Vanilla 1.6.4 works fine, as does Tekkit. The best I can get is that it says on Wylker's page that I need to put 2GB of ram and increase Permagen, but I can't see where to do that. The tickbox doesn't seem to exist, and I can't go above 1gb of ram despite having 8 on my system.

Yeah, really makes the early game a loving bear. Here I am with a gods damned stick holding off zombies in some weird rear end purple armor. The only benefit is that it is forcing me into actually fortifying my home into a little castle, got the flattened area out on top of a hill and a small trench to stop most things, now I need stone for a shield wall and the actual home itself. It actually is a pretty cool area I found, middle of some barley fields and a forest. With a huge loving floating continent right above that I have no idea what is going to be inside. If it goes well it may be the first place I have ever felt the need to actually take pictures of in minecraft, as my homes generally tend to be square.

Wonderful trip report here from Wylker's modpack.

First, some background details, I was playing Hardcore, and locked NEI to prevent cheating. (Outside of giving myself one of the nether star bullshitteries needed to build a portal gun) So this was as legit as you can get.
I was running low on certain materials, iron and lead mostly as they seem to never show up in the modpack for some odd reason, so I went mining. I was playing it pretty safe, hardcore and all that, even had some decent Lapis armor on so I wouldn't die in one hit, and was at y-level 15 to avoid most lava problems. I had about a backpack's worth of materials in hand and was getting ready to head back up after mining the last piece of ore where I was. I was standing on gravel. Something I am normally a bit leery of, but I had just mined out the block on top of it and nothing happened, so I thought it was safe. Que it falling just as I finished mining the ore. I land and there is a small wall in front of me, a pool of lava, and a creeper. The creeper blows up before I can do anything, but because I was wearing armor, I survived. No problem right? Wrong. Another creeper behind me blows up not even a second later, blasting my rear end forward into that pool of lava that the first creeper uncovered when it took out the wall in front of me, killing me in less then a second.
Death message? "Zebrin tried to swim in lava to avoid a creeper."

That was some grade A Rube Goldberg Bullshit there. All because Minecraft decided to update that gravel block later than it should have.

It's true, but packs that are listed on technic's website are their responsibility. They even have a pack with pixelmon in it on their front page. The minecraft forums wouldn't stand for that sort of behaviour and they are just as much a "platform" as technic is. It's just that the technic people really don't care. All they are in it for is to make what money they can from the advertising with doing as little work as possible. As a result I feel somewhat bound to work against them. If you go looking through forge's forums or even these forums you'll find a large number of mod makers who feel just as agreived and with just as much right to feel so.

There are much better systems out there to help people install mods and run minecraft, lets promote those and let technic slowly die out

Wow... Uh. I don't think I have ever seen an advertisment on Technic's website, and they don't accept donations, so where is this magical money coming from? Also, that is rich that he thinks of the forums as a platform for mods. The Curse forums. Which do heavy advertising, and have some generally bad practices in general.

Then there is the whole "I am stealing another's IP and expect others to respect me for it the way I don't respect them" aspect. Well, good thing I don't play with pixlemon, because that little snippet makes me want to play Maim the Modder.

-Edit- Oh wait, ABP was up on that site. Forgot about that for a bit.

In general, there just seems to be a weirdly huge amount of anti-Technic rhetoric floating around. Like somehow they're responsible for all the world's ills. Yeah, I get that Certain Modders are always pissed off as hell that some of the people putting together Technic packs don't give a flying gently caress about permission and "modder's rights" and whatever other bullshit they freak out a bit, but it just seems to be too prevalent for that. The hell did Technic do? Piss in Snegir's Cheerios or something?

Forced growth by making modpacks a thing? Took a stance of "gently caress modder's 'rights'" right from the beginning? Though that they have backtracked on a bit to get permissions and the like. Brought a large range of mods to general consumption? I know I only played with like three mods before the first technic. (And never all together.)
I think the biggest reason is that KakerMix didn't pander to the modder's ego in the beginning. And that was unforgivable. For the most part, the technic team seems to take a pretty chill tongue firmly in cheek stance regarding the primadonnas. I mean, the modding thread in general pretty much laughed at Flowerchild's antics during the first modding thread, and hasn't stopped laughing at the ones that keep the anti-technic torch lit since.

By this point, it is just a Coke vs Pepsi argument. Except that FTB has sold out to Curse and doesn't accept user modpacks like the platform does.

The easiest method I know of would be to make the storage system be set further away on your pipe system. Just whack one of the pipes with the cresent hammer and it will go through vacume mode and into restricted. Vacume gives pipes a distance of -10000 or something like that, and restricted gives a distance of 10000 block. so the seeds will go to the planter, and the wheat will go to the storage. It even makes it so that once your planter is filled with seeds it will direct the seeds to storage as well.
You can also just pull from storage too.

By the point that I bother with the nether, I generally just create a safe point, then dive to find a nether fortress. After that I can have all the lava I need with a pump and a pair of ender tanks. Before then, it is a pain in the rear end to get. Lava pools dry up too fast, and ravines are just pains. The only real problem is that the ender tank acts as a low yield buffer that you can't really replace or upgrade in the system until you hit tesseracts, and those require top tier materials. The only other reason to go there is nether ores, and strip mining mystcraft ages replace the need for that anyways.

Effector Fields really does need to get put into the OP so we don't have to keep finding that post.

As far as seeds go, the mods actually add things based off a different seed(Or just a different timing based on the same seed, so different numbers either way.), so you will get the same basic shape and vanilla ore distribution, but you will get new... say Oil geysers from buildcraft, and new aura nodes from Thaumcraft. Which will in turn make new spooky biomes and Magical forests.

My biggest problem with dungeon mods (or dungeon builders like MCDungeon, which is pretty spectacular, actually) is setting up the loot tables. They're rarely shipped with bigger modpacks, so you have to customize the loot you find by hand. And even when shipped with big packs, the balance is all over the place. I can't count the number of modpacks I've played with dungeons where the reward for getting to the end of a perilous dungeon is like, 3 diamonds. In a mod that barely even uses diamonds.
A fully fleshed out loot table with new dungeons could go a long way in extending the life of many modpacks, though.

Making some of the higher end items of mods require that you go through a dungeon to get the first of a material(Which you can then make more of using said material) is a fun thing too. Gives you a reason to get out of your hose and explore, rather then just sit there watching your iron count go up even further.

But ehn, I can't code worth poo poo, and my art is somehow even worse, so I guess it is just a pipe dream for now. Oh well.
That said, is there a good place for finding builds already made for big reactors? I actually haven't played around with big reactors as every time I need more power I just build a few more Thermos. But now I am getting to the point where it would probably be smaller to just build a single big reactor then to expand my power plant further.

From what I have seen, I am really not liking the new AE2. So many bad decisions. Like world-space crafting. In a game where dropped items decay. In a mod about automation and storage. Seems kinda cross to it's own purposes. I really hope there is something like a way to revert to the old recipes. The addition of multiple new steps to make basic storage and requiring multiple things to be raided from dungeon chests makes it even harder to start. I liked it because it was simple and easy, if resource intensive and requiring a bit of infrastructure to start with. Now it seems to have gone the way of gregtech.
