It's a pretty good game, but the developer has left a bad taste in most goons mouths, so it doesn't get much press here.

I do not like games. Qud is not a game, it is a life style. The 4 player co op rogue like is really cool, but please don't let it get in the way of me giving you guys this horde of water in exchange for Steam Qud. Thank you.

Yeah it is. One of these days I'll get around to making a gif where that pans down to the emoticon mood indicator and shakes it up to a DD. The power systems in cataclysm are kind of fun. Running things off of UPS's, or your own bionic power, or through rechargeable batteries via a car can be a lot of fun. Hopefully they'll eventually work in the vehicle power systems into constructions, and we can start powering homes and such.

Cataclysm is a sandbox RL. It'll never offer you the same experience as Crawl, or any other goal orientated RL. As such, it's a bit all over the place, and you really have to make your own fun. However, it's probably the best sandbox out there for the sort of people that will deliberately take sub optimal choices and see where it goes.

Usually the stuff that's broken gets posted on the Git and fixed. A lot of changes and rewrites does leave a lot of stuff broken though, I'll agree. Never got the complaints about guns, though. More guns is more fun, people might as well complain about all the knives, swords, and armor options as well.

as someone who plays the game rather then makes it I like those odds. not only that, but the outsider works tend to inject new ideas in old musty genres even if they're completely crap. also people who don't know a particular genre making games doesn't stop the people who do from making their own refined new games as well.

Tuxedo Catfish posted:It's better than not making anything at all, but that's not really the point in contention. Stuff like "cosmetic explosions block out visual tells" is exactly the kind of thing that familiarity with past experimentation would save you from, even if you end up going in a wildly different direction. and while I can certinaly see this as being an issue, this isn't what happened here, is it? there's lots of good reviews out for the game, so I doubt any good ideas are going to just disapear. in fact, I can't think of a game that was so bad that it's mechanically interesting features didn't wind up in some other game at some point, but I'll admit that it could be because the game sucked so bad no one remembers it. either way, outsider games are good and cool in my book and more should be made.

It's easy for me to get lost in the swarm of colors, but I don't know what the best fix for that would be. I mean, the colors and the pumping music are part of the appeal to me. Maybe just recoloring the character and making the cross hairs more visible would be a good start. Either way, definitely relay them the feedback or tell them to come over here. Goons are vitriolic, but it's a pretty constructive vitriol. Chakan posted:It was a joke. Most everyone here feels like there were lots of cool things about dredmor but playing the game is tedious. Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing. The player, the players robot buddies, and the enemies should all have distinct palates, in addition to the enemy/friendly bullet distinction.

Seconding wasted having some variety adding DLC, or an expansion that takes place in the post apocalyptic 90's with pogs for currency that happens after the ending. I'm a bit flustered with it because on my second run through to get the ending achievements I got a slienced lubbed emma grand from the courier run and then wasted it 10 minutes later on the first cooler. Combine it with the light foot booze and you're super fast until explosions chain fling you against the wall or you run into the SOB's minigun fire. Has there been any updates to Wasted recently, I played it religiously over the summer, but kinda burned out.

Really making me want to get back into wasted. I want to give you sage advice and really I've forgotten how to articulate it. Cover is super important, as is the general roguelike advice of always being paranoid about doors and corners. Stealth helps too, making engagements when you want them is important. Maybe I'll stream a new save run or something.

ToxicFrog posted:I should probably be using stealth more than I am (which is not at all) -- it feels like the game strongly discourages using stealth, since it's always slower than run-and-gun, and the SOB timer pressures you to go fast all the time. And in the early floors, the fact that this exposes you to more damage is a non-issue because medical patches are so ridiculously common. Yeah, you can actually be pretty quick about it. I'm gonna fire up my stream and do a few new saves in Wasted, but you can definitely outrun or kill the SOB easy when you've got a handle on things. https://www.twitch.tv/killeroflawyers If anyone wants to watch, I'll be diving right in. I don't stream often, so it's not a very professional team, just me hopefully bringing beef, booze, and bullets. Edit: Done for now. How's about some Wasted advice. The SOB isn't really as scary as you think. Any room you can double back in with cover you can use to run past him. Also leaving a trip mine or two near the start will probably cripple his walk speed, so do that if you have trouble. The exit is never behind a locked door. Locked doors, depending on how strong the lock is, makes the enemies harder, but has better loot. So early on it's a good way to get good loot if you think you can jank it. The first cooler isn't great at all in terms of loot. You're better off just running straight through it to start. The low level boozes are a lot of newbie traps. The one that makes people explode? Tons of fun, will kill you quick though! The one that makes you light on your feet? You'll get chain stunned by rapid fire weapons. You don't need to always be sneaking, it's basically a randomized fallout dungeon generator, treat it as such. Run to doors, crouch, open them, ambush people, then go back to running. If anyone else has any trouble with the game, just ask and I can probably give advice. So far tonight I managed to make it without any booze to the junkdogs cooler, then died a lot carelessly. drat, I love that game though, good to see other people playing it, still hold out hope that more like it or sequel gets made with more stuff to do in it. I forget where the cowboy hat drops, but the power armor you can get easily, just kill the SOB after he comes after you in a level. Lost and found only works for the purple items, like the bikini, or the groin guard.
