I bought Dredmor and then put off playing it until they fixed all the crash bugs and save corruption.

Except they kinda never did and now they're working on a different game.

Wasn't Dredmor's entire development history pretty wildly spotty? I don't know the whole story, but I swear I've seen a couple posts or discussions about it, probably in a previous iteration of this thread.

Either way, I fire up that game once every couple of months and then get bored by the time I get to the fifth floor or so. And I forget that crafting is garbage. And everything else.

Well alright, I suppose nothing's sacred on the internet anymore.

The secrecy around the dragonslayer/berserk armour is just really silly and doesn't add anything to the game. It feels like an old MUD where the advanced classes/super strong items are hidden behind quests with goofy syntax hunts where everyone winds up telling everyone else the answers at some point anyway. I figured having nothing in your hands was probably part of the secret given the circumstances in the comic, but I don't remember anything from Berserk about him picking up that sword for the first time in the buff.

If he keeps changing it to be secret, well, that's his business I guess? Plenty more anime to equip in this game. :v:

I used to be all about ADOM but tried playing it again recently and just couldn't be hosed getting anything significant off the ground. Finding an altar, raising piety, carting a boatload of stuff to said altar to see if it's cursed, and the general lack of ID scrolls are things I guess I don't want to waste time dealing with anymore. It's from a different era and I loved it, but I don't think I have the time to go for an ultra ending in this day and age.

Cataclysm is extremely guilty of this. It's a fun game, and the crafting system, for all its faults, is pretty great if only because there's so much poo poo you can make and it enables a ton of different playstyles. But if you want to craft anything relatively complex, you're going to need to make or acquire a lot of tools, many of which need batteries/thread/duct tape/charcoal/etc, and you're going to need a ridiculous crapton of raw materials and intermediate components.

it was definitely a pain in the rear end until i built a vehicle with basically a 9x9 square of containers and recharging tools inside of it, since the game is merciful and checks for stuff within 1 tile's reach of you when crafting. and by the time you're done setting that up you'll have gained a ridiculous amount of mechanic skill as well!

Dungeonmans question: did the masters program involving bouncing lines and all that ever get a buff? I haven't played in what feels like most of the year but I distinctly remembering it feeling like the spells in it weren't properly applying the game's equivalent of spellpower or whatever.

spriggan is the best race for it, though i think kobolds can also do stealth pretty well. my first stabber was a SpEn of Dithmenos and i 3-runed it handily, just make sure you have a bag of tricks for when things wake up on you. when in doubt, loving run away and dont hesitate to go nuclear with evocables.

You should give it another go and ask for a little advice before giving up. The Master is a frustrating dickhead due to his disables, summons, and firepower but with a little knowledge you can beat his rear end into the ground and the rest of the game is just about clear sailing from that point on. Antimagic Berserkers are super easy to play and turn him into vampire mulch.

I have done a lot of work on my Final Fantasy rogue-like over the weekend, Final Fantasy R!

It's not so much of a broken disaster any more, and there is a bunch more content and cool stuff like battle animations. I have added an aura system, so monsters give each other different kinds of bonuses (making every battle challenging and unique!). I find it pretty fun. Mostly you can just kill monsters, gain levels and loot. All of the dungeons are infinite and randomly generated, you can just keep going down and they get harder as you go. There is no story or ending:

Final Fantasy R V1.2
http://www.mediafire.com/file/jy5fzftoh35ijoz/Final+Fantasy+R+V1.2.rar

i used a smoke bomb in a fight where the run command was greyed out and it softlocked in that the party escaped and it started playing the dungeon music but the battle screen never went away

also dungeons had a lot of random locked doors and stuff in the middle of the hallway, idk if that matters though
