Once again, FX has changed the name of the show in its TV listings. This means that your DVR will not automatically record the new season even if you have a season pass from the previous one. Make a new one specifically for the new season to be sure of catching it. Teaser Videos (Full cover of "House of the Rising Sun" here) Detention Pins and Needles Staircase Stakes Coffin Initiation Pins Slither WitchWalk Laveau Voodoo Study Hall Hair Don't Spellbound Writhing The Stand Black Hat Bullhorn Longer Videos Burn Inside the Coven: Voodoo in New Orleans Mythology American Horror Story is an anthology series created by Ryan Murphy. Each season is a self-contained storyline, a pastiche of forms and genres found in western-style horror. American Horror Story: Coven is set in both the present and the 1830s in New Orleans and will follow the conflict between two powerful groups of witches. One group represents the practices of Louisiana Voodoo, and is led by the real-life voodoo queen Marie Laveau (played by Angela Bassett). The other represents a fugitive clan that escaped the Salem witch trials and is led by Fiona (Jessica Lange) the Supreme, the greatest witch of her generation. AHS: Coven will premier on October 9th at 10PM. Information is just starting to come out about the new season, primarily through a panel held at an event for Emmy voters. We have various tidbits here and there and a very impressive female-centric cast (newcomers in bold):
Ryan Murphy has promised us that this season will be a "more buoyant and comedic and crafty" than last season, despite tackling issues of feminism, race, and oppression, and having a character who was an actual real-life serial killer. It remains to be seen what this entails, but keep in mind that this is the creative team whose idea of comic relief is the Name Game scene from season 2. Previously on American Horror Story: Season 2: Asylum The second installment of American Horror Story focused on the goings-on at Briarcliff, a mental asylum in 1964 Massachusetts ruled with an iron fist by Sister Jude (Jessica Lange), and the repercussions of those events in the present day. Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson), an ambitious journalist and secret lesbian, tries to infiltrate the asylum to expose the horrors perpetrated upon the inmates and investigate the serial killer Bloody Face, but she's quickly discovered and trapped in a hellish nightmare of crazed lunatics, psychological torment, evil spirits, cannibal mutants, Nazi doctors, religious zealotry, and alien abduction. Any one of these elements would be enough for most horror stories, but Asylum smashed them all together and hurled them out of the screen with a manic, almost vicious intensity, bringing us such wonders as Adam Levine getting his arm ripped off in the middle of a blowjob, Ian McShane playing a psychotic spree-killing Santa Claus, and Zachary Quinto moaning the line "Baby needs colostrum" before latching onto an unwilling tit. It's Ryan Murphy turned up to 11 and unconstrained by any semblance of reality and it was glorious. Asylum was nominated for 17 Emmy awards and won 2 of them, including Outstanding Supporting Actor (Miniseries) for James Cromwell. Season 1: Murderhouse The first installment of American Horror Story followed the story of the Harmons (Ben, Vivien, and Violet, portrayed by Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, and Taissa Farmiga), a family strained almost to the breaking point by infidelity who seek a fresh start by moving into a massive, picturesque house in Los Angeles. Unfortunately for them the house comes with a long and bloody history that has led to it being haunted by about 5,000 ghosts who all hate each other, from the drug-addled surgeon to the cutely combative gay couple to the troubled teen who just might be a mass murderer to the anonymous man in the latex gimp suit to the flesh-eating goblin in the basement. The resulting twelve-episode clusterfuck became one of the more memorable experiences of the 2011 season. Murderhouse was nominated for 17 Emmy awards and won 2 of them, including Outstanding Supporting Actress (Miniseries) for Jessica Lange. haveblue fucked around with this message at 17:45 on Oct 5, 2013 |

Yes! It's finally Cryptic Promo time! When the second season started coming around I was still unsure about liking it (I believe I joked about the first season being Dramatic Sex Ghost Family Hour and the best worst show I'd ever seen), but this time I'm just shamelessly looking forward to it. I've shed my reservations about admitting it. I love this crazy drat show.

I don't just mean in TVIV either, but in general.

Asylum was my first AHS experience and it did a masterful job of sucking me in. All these stories coexisting at once, all the intrigue and mystery between what the aliens wanted, who Bloodyface was, etc., and the general atmosphere of this terrible institution really ramped up my excitement to see the show every week. But the last few episodes or so really shut everything down in favor of a couple of narratives, and in a really sudden and uncreative way. Pretty much everything they built up during the series got waved away and suddenly the show was predictable and actually kind of disappointing. It really, honestly came off like they presented all these questions to get you hooked, and then couldn't figure out how to give satisfying answers for most of them. I guess it was bound to happen when you cram in serial killers, aliens, the devil, mutants, nazis, and everything else into a 13 episode show, and do so while you're writing and filming it. So basically I'm hoping the same thing doesn't happen this time, and that the centralized idea of a war of witches will make for a more focused narrative. The time skipping is still a powerful device and I'm looking forward to seeing just what they can do.

http://www.howjsay.com/index.php?word=coven Anyway, I have high hopes for this season. I had heard speculation about Delphine LaLaurie being the subject of this season but that sounds too much like themes they've already explored. A voodoo priestess versus a centuries-old coven sounds so much more promising. Jessica Lange is going to be electrifying, I just know it.

I don't have cable, and this is one of the handful of shows I actually buy episodes of week to week to keep up with. First season literally blew my mind. Haven't quite gotten through season 2 yet, but I'm looking forward to 3. Especially the new cast members. Angela Bassett? I'm in.

Now imagine that she's obsessed with torture and her victims are all servants with no possible way of getting away from her. I'm expecting some seriously hosed up poo poo happening this season on that front and I'm psyched about it. Random, but I hope they bring Chloe Sevigny back again, she's great. Not sure if she's committed to anything else, though.

It's exactly nothing like AHS but it's a really solid (Irish?) drama where Chloe plays a hitwoman who also happens to be a pre-op trans woman. In the first episode, she finds out that her ex girlfriend has an eleven year old son by her and is also dying of cancer. It's only 6 episodes so far (all on Netflix!) and I thought it was very well done. Sevigny is great in it as always, and from some of the interviews and stuff about it, it sounds like she really got into the character and tried to understand what a trans person deals with. Anyway, yeah, Chloe owns. QuickbreathFinisher fucked around with this message at 23:39 on Aug 7, 2013 |

I went idly searching for news just now, and found this instead: http://www.cardboardconnection.com/2013-breygent-american-horror-story-trading-cards First season trading cards. (That's the closest thing to a news release/article I can find.) Poking around the internet, it seems they're releasing 800 'preview packs' in mid-August, and as for the rest.. sometime after then. A few promotional cards were given out at conventions over the summer. There'll be autograph cards, costume cards, foils, and basic cards featuring characters or episodes. Do a lot of shows get trading cards? It just seems like the silliest thing, but I'm kind of curious. Edit: wordsauce posted:I'm on pins and needles. Okay, that made me jump. I live in New Orleans and several of my friends have told me they've seen members of the cast and crew in the French Quarter recently since they're filming here. I wish I could see them too That teaser was pretty weird and I'm excited for this season, but how are they gonna top the weirdness of last season? They've always found a way to top themselves in the past, though, so I'm not worried. Thank god Jessica Lange and Evan Peters are back. No Zach Quinto this season, though?

Failing that, a fourth season with its own new cast is already a good bet. One of the things that makes AHS so great is the superb cast and their chemistry. I couldn't imagine this show working, for me at least, without this core of actors. It has introduced me to actors I never really cared for (Lange, McDermott, Quinto), actors I had never heard of (Rabe, Peters, Brochere), and then there is the always brilliant James Cromwell. With that said, it would be a nice change of pace if they introduced a new cast after season 3. I am really excited for this. Season 1 didn't really do much for me at first, mainly because I find ghosts and the devil dumb. However I did recently re-watch it and had a newfound appreciation for it with the perspective of watching season 2. I loved season 2 right off the bat for the subject matter and setting, and season 3 is sure to be great because I find witchcraft and voodoo and Cajun culture fascinating.

The 'Masters of' series are a little hit or miss, but having a cast of main actors that you can rotate between seasons seems like a good way to save costs and still craft quality stories.

Is there any word as to when Season 2 is going to be available? Life and work got in the way after the season break and I never managed to catch up. As far as the premier of Season 3 goes, if FX holds true to form, I'd put my money on somewhere around Halloween.
