It seemed like a move a bit over the head of Sinclair to me even pre pandemic. They are rich but not Fox rich and they were tired of sustaining the RSNs. I am guessing Comcast tries to get in again?

Sinclair is looking to restructure their RSNs. If Fox Corporation ends up re-acquiring the channels for cheap, I'm going to laugh and laugh.

The fact of the matter is a lot of those online tv subscription servies like Hulu TV+ and YouTube TV are dropping RSN's too due to the fees. As much as it pains me to say this, I honestly would be incredibly happy if someone like Amazon just snapped them up.

This also does boil down to me saying gently caress DISNEY because they've hosed up a lot of this stuff. One thing that has nothing to do with sports but pisses me off is how a lot of the classic Fox Films library is now locked up behind Disney's walls and they show little to no interest in doing any work on those films. There are certain high level legacy titles like Die Hard and Alien that I imagine they'll continue to support but Disney is on effectively on record as saying they're basically done doing physical releases on the majority of their films outside of new tentpole releases and the idea that they'd go back and do 4K restore stuff on classic Fox films has pretty much been killed. And even though they have Disney+ they show no indication that they're going to onboard much Fox content...and they even are limiting classic films being loaned out to revival houses. So you're a local theater that wants to do a run of Die Hard? Too bad. Disney says gently caress you.

Yeah, Fox was more than willing to let small exhibitors show their older films even if they couldn't get a huge fee for it because they were happy to take a small fee rather than zero fee, Disney doesn't seem to feel that way and has either upped prices or pulled things all together.

Amazon sucks but they'd probably let people subscribe to regionals out of market which I don't think anyone else will do.

It feels like it would be bad if ABC got all the pro football but then again it might make them pull back from college or basketball which would be better for the things I like.

The current standard of "don't even mention the idiot" honestly is a good one. It's not something that needs to be encouraged and a lot of us can remember the Monica Seles stabbing. Honestly I'm a bit surprised there haven't been more incidents like that.

I'm also not going to lie and say that Kevin Harlan call isn't one of the greatest things of all time, it absolutely is. I just also feel like we're overdue for some beered up moron to take a swing at an unsuspecting player and badly hurt them, especially at a basketball, tennis, or golf event where the crowd can be right on top of players.

Hulu Live has announced a price increase to $65/month, effective December 18th. Same price as YoutubeTV.

AA posted:

fuboTV also got a price hike over the summer, increasing to $60/month. Notably, all of these streaming services have dropped channels this year in spite of the hikes. fubo dropped a bunch of WarnerMedia networks, including TBS and TNT. However, it did add MLB Network and the ESPN family of networks. YouTube TV added NFL Network for the start of football season, and then dropped the Sinclair-owned Fox RSNs. Hulu also made the decision to drop those RSNs last month.

Interestingly enough, Hulu Live’s last price increase came a year ago yesterday, when its price was upped by $10 to $54.99/month. That means that in the span of a little over a year, Hulu Live subscribers have seen their subscription cost increase by 44% from $44.99 to $64.99.

well at least all the competition among streaming services will keep prices low!!

espn+ seems to still be the best deal in town even if it’s only sports (but you don’t necessarily need live tv for much else at this point)

ESPN+ doesn’t actually get you the normal live ESPN content though, right? It’s just the random paywalled stuff.

Correct and lots of sports air on Not ESPN. It's a pretty good deal but it's not replacing cable or the other live streaming things if you want to watch live sports.

I don’t know what ESPN’s up to but it’s probably “cutting expenses” because they shut down their ESPN Player app that carries some stuff (including college sports) in Asia, meaning it’s MENA, Africa and Europe only.

This is probably an issue for me alone but now there’s zero way to catch any football legally short of somehow getting access to AFN.

This is advice from 20 years ago when I last had it but if you know any other Americans out there that are associated with the military getting AFN is as easy as buying the equipment (dish, decoder box, card) from them. Those things get passed around all the time for pennies. You don’t pay for it as a subscription.

Of course then you have a dish to deal with.
