Final Fantasy Job Faire
More Abilities and Magicks (and Quickenings) (and Buffs)

Our characters have learned a couple of new abilities since the last Abilities and Magicks update, so let's check them out. But also, I'm going to include some info on what buff and debuffs exist, so let's go.

Buffs and debuffs have come up a fair bit, but I don't feel I've properly explained them. They were explained in the instruction book, but who reads the instruction book? They are also fairly conventional as far as Final Fantasy goes, but whatever lets take a look at them here.



Protect raises your Stamina by x1.4, Shell raises your Mind by x1.4, and Barrier raises both Stamina and Mind by x1.2. Similarly, Bravery boosts strength by x1.4, Faith boosts Magick by x1.4, Heroism raises both those stats.



Haste speeds up rechange time by x1.5, and unlike Haste's function in every other Final Fantasy game, doesn't affect your movement speed. Regen recovers 4% of a units max HP every 2 seconds. With Berserk, and as I explained when I showed off Ba'Gamnan's Berserk ability, it restricts a unit to their basic attack with the bonus of doubling their attack, movement speed, and attack speed. Funny that the in-game description doesn't reference the positive effects of Berserk.



Poisoned units lose 2% of their max HP every second. Effectively the same loss as Regen heals, but since Regen's health is added every 2 seconds, the two don't entirely stalemate each other. Blinded units miss physical attacks 50% more often. Sleeping units can be woken up by hitting them, but since there's no friendly fire in this game, you can't punch your allies awake. Wait, no, there sort of is because confused allies can hit other allies, heal foes, and they move erratically.



Being the opposite of Haste, Slow also affects only attack speed and doesn't deal with movement speed. All of these debuffs are pretty nasty in such a fast-moving game.

Now onto abilities! The abilites for Vaan, Penelo, Kytes, Filo, and Llyud are learned at levels 28 - 33.

Vaan's Abilities:

Steal Endurance (Lasts for: 15 seconds - Recharge time: 20 seconds)
An stamina-sapping version of Steal Speed. Which, if you've forgotten, gives an stamina boost to Vaan, and a stamina penalty to his foe, as well as doing a bit of damage.


Steal Power (Lasts for: 15 seconds - Recharge time: 20 seconds)
Like Steed Speed and Steal Endurance, but this one works off the Strength stat.

Deals heavy area damage, with about the same range as a magick spell.

Penelo's Magicks:


War Dance (Lasts for: 20 seconds - Recharge time: 40 Seconds)
Gives the Bravery buff to all allies in range. Bravery raises unit's Attack by x1.4.


Raise (Recharge time: 30 seconds)
A better version of Llyud's Revive, it brings an ally back to life, with no HP cost to Penelo.

Fully revives all party members and removes all debuffs. It cannot revive the dead unfortunately, but it's really cool.

Kytes' Magicks:


Thundaga (Recharge time: 20 seconds)
Deals Thunder damage to all foes in range, basically the thunder elemental version of Firaga.


Stonega (Recharge time: 20 seconds)
And here's the Earth elemental version of Firaga too.

Filo's Abilities:


Speed Snare (Lasts for: 25 seconds - Recharge time: 30 seconds)
Sets up a trap, which when triggered, slows the foes Speed and Movement to x0.5.


Decoy Bit (Recharge time: 30 seconds)
Decoy Bit creates a decoy which sponges up some of the damage foes do to you. (It doesn't function in a way to make the user a more attractive target to foes, as decoy worked in FFXII.)

Llyud's Abilities:


Transfuse (Recharge time: 10 seconds)
Consumes 25% of Llyud's max HP, in order to restore an ally's HP.


Vanishga (Lasts for: 20 seconds - Recharge time: 40 seconds)
Gives the Invisible buff to allies. This prevents foes from seeing them, so you can sneak up on them. The invisible buff lasts for 20 seconds, which is actually a bit too short to be very useful, but there are a few cool things you can do with it.

All Espers get fortified another level. This complements the astral crystals/fortification system, and also charges pretty quickly compared to other quickenings.

Fran's Abilities:
Fran joins with these two abilities, and thus doesn't learn them at a specific level.


Blind Arrow (Lasts for: 15 seconds - Recharge time: 40 seconds)
Gives Fran's basic attacks a property that has them inflict the blind debuff on foes. Blind lasts for 5 seconds.


Sleep Arrow (Lasts for: 15 seconds - Recharge time: 40 seconds)
Gives Fran's basic attacks a property that has them inflict the sleep debuff on foes. Sleep lasts for 1.5 seconds, or until the sleeping foe is hit by an attack.

Ba'Gamnan's Abilities:
Ba'Gamnan left ages ago, but actually has a full set of abilities. Most people don't get to see all them, because he learns his abilities at the same pace as Vaan + the rest of the party members, but leaves way before the time anyone in the party naturally learn all their abilities. So, here are all of Ba'Gamnan's abilities. He doesn't have a Quickening though.


Bad Breath (Lasts for: 10 seconds - Recharge time: 30 seconds)
Inflicts multiple debuffs on multiple foes.


Souleater (Recharge time: 10 seconds)
Consumes 20% of the users Max HP to inflict damage.


Ba'Syphon (Recharge time: 20 seconds)
Damages foes, and also debuffs their Magick and Mind, and provides the user with a Magick/Mind buff.


Dark Aura (Recharge time: 30 seconds)
Deals ranged damage to multiple foes.
