I've done it, I've found the worst drivers in North America in New Orleans.

Having spent 20 years living in Atlanta while visiting New Orleans as often as possible, I'm going to vote Atlanta over New Orleans. Everything you list is pretty common.

This seems made for this thread:

Doesn't Uber require a <10 year old car? Taxis are usually a bit older than that, I thought. So many of them are pre-'03-refresh CVPIs.

A lot of places require taxis to be no more than say 5-10 years old depending on location.

Well, after running off the road and tearing my bumper up on a curb this morning to avoid the person who lunged into my lane around a bus, I'm strongly considering a dash cam. Is there a thread favorite or a separate recommendations thread around?

In the 1990s, Subaru’s unique selling point was that the company increasingly made all-wheel drive standard on all its cars. When the company’s marketers went searching for people willing to pay a premium for all-wheel drive, they identified four core groups who were responsible for half of the company’s American sales: teachers and educators, health-care professionals, IT professionals, and outdoorsy types.

Then they discovered a fifth: lesbians.

Why would anyone ever drive a RHD in North America? It would be so loving frustrating. The driving would be annoying enough, but dealing with infrastructure like parking garages and whatnot would be absolute hell.

Yes. Also drive-throughs. More detail here: http://jalopnik.com/heres-how-to-drive-a-right-hand-drive-nissan-skyline-gt-1705851377

Right. And Interstate 75 runs nowhere near Plano, Texas, which is why I was wondering if the OP meant to write "US 75" rather than "I75".

LOL people in your area stop for emergency vehicles? Around here if you pull over for an emergency vehicle you're likely to get passed.

By the guy behind you, the emergency vehicle, and then the 4 guys tailgating it.

I'm not an expert on Louisiana traffic laws, but I'm pretty sure that passing an ambulance on the right is not legal. Still saw it last week.

That Uber car totally saw the bicyclist, btw, but decided it had time to get out of the way later.

quote:

Uber has reportedly discovered that the fatal crash involving one of its prototype self-driving cars was probably caused by software faultily set up to ignore objects in the road, sources told The Information. The autonomous programming detects items around the vehicle and operators fine-tune its sensitivity to make sure it only reacts to true threats (solid objects instead of bags, for example). Unfortunately, the car's software was supposedly set too far in the other direction, and didn't stop in time to avoid hitting bicyclist Elaine Herzberg.

Wait, how do you embed videos and skip to a time? The first 25 seconds or so are pointless

You have to manually edit the post to add in the start time offset to the bbcode - start="3m8s"

So for this video like
