Some guy started hulking out on me today and I'm not sure why.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op0-Y_XX0H4

If you have annotations turned off, black truck can be seen on my right at about :15 blocking a cargo van from safely merging. I didn't even notice the truck until he started brake checking me so I have no clue what set him off.
When he came to a complete stop I had thought that traffic stopped ahead of him (it frequently does at this point) so I waited to move. I think he got mad I didn't respond or try to pass because he eventually flipped me off and then burned out.

Also here's two other short videos from previous commutes.

I had this argument on Reddit, that lane marking is for the innermost lane to follow. I can take either lane in CA and since I was turning right at the next right I chose the right lane.

I have had FAR MORE close calls when choosing the center lane from dipshits on the inner lane swinging wide.

If I had to guess, black truck hulk guy was mad that you closed the gap with the white car on your right here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op0-Y_XX0H4&t=36s because ten seconds later he's passing you fast on the left, cuts you off, and then brake checks you.

That's the only thing I can think of. Traffic started to speed up at this point and the car ahead of me merged so I was making up ground. I didn't even see him in my peripheral so he must not have been that close to making the gap.

I honked at an old man today. I didn't know he was an old man, I saw a car packed on the curb in front of the door of the grocery store with his hazards on. This was causing some major traffic problems in this shopping center so I came up behind on him and held the horn until he eventually moved on.

He was probably waiting for his wife but man you are making a bad situation even worse, just circle the lot or double park in an auxiliary lane.

Yeah, it looks like the School bus is taking the corner earlier than the Camera Car. Which does take the corner "by the book". Wether or not that is intentional to leave no room for the BMW is up to speculation. Though most people only rarely check their right side mirror when taking a left turn on a single lane road.
If the BMW driver would have been a smart rear end in a top hat, he'd have overtaken on the left and would have avoided the whole issue.

From the comments on the Reddit thread, there used to be a right lane there and they recently closed the lane and put in a bike path, that's why there are cones and a barrier there. It's likely the BMW thought the lane was still there and wasn't trying to pass the car so much as to change lanes (that don't exist any more) and had to jerk back in again.

Southbound 121 bridge over Sandy Lake. You can see the NTB building on the right by the service road, same as in the gif. Just across the bridge there's a reroute onto a newly paved portion of the highway.

Streetview is updating because of the reroute, so here's a view from the northbound lane. You can see the red arrow I put on here, that's the newly paved portion.

The newly paved portion is an overpass that goes over the on-ramp, it follows the red line I've drawn. Then there's fresh blacktop to get it to the old service road, a few hundred feet of old service road, and blacktop back across the median to the original flow. This whole portion of highway is a 70 mph limit, so if there's no traffic it's a sudden right after cresting a bridge. Besides there being ongoing construction in this area for the last two years, there's no adjusted speed limit signs out, most of the work has been done away from the flow of traffic.

I like the flashing yellow lights in the school zone that let you know unambiguously that it is an active school zone, and you need to obey the lower limit. Arizona also has those (and some other states) but California does not. KRON's Stanley Roberts recently had a People Behaving Badly segment that involved a school zone, and I commented about how I thought California should adopt those lights in schools zones since I thought they were helpful in Arizona, and some guy was arguing with me that they aren't needed. Well screw that guy, I like them and still think California ought to have them.

Crotch Fruit posted:

So are California school zones just reduced speed 24/7 or what? Everywhere I have been the signs have specific and kinda random hours depending on what time the school starts, sometimes the list of poo poo is long with different hours on different days of the week or an exclusion for summer, it's a lot easier to just look for lights instead of trying to decipher the wall of text at 40mph. And well, Cali seems like a nanny state in every other way.

I don't know what your guys are talking about. California has flashing lights in school zones. Also school zone speeds are reduced "when children are present". If you see kids walking around, then you slow down. Pretty easy stuff.

An engine in the middle of a highway at night is a serious issue and you should absolutely call 911 about it.

What would braking after the collision do in this case?

I don't think it's even intentional, some people just zone out when making the long commute home and don't really realize how close they are to your car and haven't checked the other lanes for open traffic. Slowing down wakes them up a bit and they usually change lanes.
